Nice Little Field Magnifier

Hi guys, I'm sure most people already have some sort of magnifier that you take with you or keep in your vehicle when you go detecting. You can buy magnifiers that are really expensive and some that are just plain junk. If you don't already have something or want a spare to keep in another location, I bought a couple of these sliding lighted magnifiers sold by Radio Shack a few years back. One for home and one for the road.

They are really clear and the sliding cover is nice because it keeps the lens from getting dirty or scratched. When you slide the cover open all the way until it clicks, it exposes a pretty bright LED. It takes 3 AAA batteries and I don't think I've changed them in either of mine since I bought them. It's 3X magnification and good enough for checking out dates and mint marks. With the sliding cover you can keep this in your pants or jacket pocket and coins, keys and other items won't scratch the lens.

Yesterday, I was in Radio Shack buying some components for a little project that I've been working on and they now have these on clearance for $3.09. I had paid upwards of $14 or $15 when I bought mine. Not sure if this clearance price is just in my area or nationwide. I thought this was a good deal even at the $15 price that I paid for the first two.

Here is a picture of what it looks like in the package. The UPC code on the back is 40293 02070. I think the Radio Shack part number is 630-0194. It measures 4.25" x 1.75" and it's about .75" thick at it's thickest point. I have used these things like crazy and maybe you can pick one up for yourself before they are gone. My local store had two and I bought one more to keep at the office.

Thanks for the info. I'll slide by RS later today, see if they're running the same deal here, and if they are I'll get one or two.
As much as I hate to admit it, the old peepers aren't working like they did when I was younger.

I think my arms are just getting shorter:rolleyes:, at least that is what I tell my wife. That is a good deal there. I will have to stop by the shack on my way to the library today.

Thanks for the info Mapper.... I just pick one up today while out doing some shopping since I can't go MDing with about a foot of snow still on the ground.

That's a nice lil Magifier with a bright light for only 3 bucks.

:( They were all out at my local Shack.

Mine too! But while I was there, I did score a great deal on a foldable 3 lens unit, for a couple bucks. HH Randy

I had to drive near my other Radio Shack on my way home from work tonight. I stopped to see if they still had any. There were two guys working in the store. One guy said that they didn't have any and a minute or so later the other guy came walking over with one and said "this must be it, they are $8.99". I said "do you have any more". There was one more on the hook and I said "I'll take that one also being that they are on clearance for $3.07." The guy that found them said "Oh no, they will be $8.99." When he scanned one of them it came up $3.07 and both guys kind of got a look on yheir face like they wish they had known that they were on clearance because they probably would have bought one. There are a few guys that I detect with so I figured they make an inexpensive "here ya go".

Thanks for the info. I found three at our local RS. Will come in handy..........

went to my RS guy said they don't handle them
