Hi Jeff,yes,soil is very sandy like,easy to dig,think its been ploughed a lot over the years,very dark also,almost black and loamy type like compost.Easiest soil I have detected on and always look forward to going to this farm.
 
With the excellent condition of your find I was thinking that might be the case, sand over clay any day for digging and preserving finds.
