Nickel finds:

I had a preconceived idea that my nickel finds would tail off this year after switching from an XT-70 and how well they hit on objects in the gold range such as nickels, to the Safari which doesn't seem to have quite the reputation in that department that the XT-70 (705) has. Whereas in fact my percentage of nickel finds with the Safari this year has remained "exactly" the same (5.0%) as last year when I was using the XT-70 which bodes well if the Safari does come across any gold. Now if I could only bring myself to dig more targets in the gold range...

While the Safari isn't the detector you'd grab for nugget hunting, it does very well in the gold jewelry department. It's tough to dig gold range targets because 99% of the time they turn out to be trash. However, my most valuable find, a platinum and diamond ring, came in at a solid 11 and my wife's small engagement ring and wedding ring come in at 6 and 9. Other gold rings I've found ID at 13,15,17,18, so when I'm in 'jewelry mode', I accept numbers above 5.
