Nickel Grand Slam and a Penny Slam plus a seated to boot

Went back to the University grounds I have been detecting and I brought the Security Guards donuts as I said I would and they gave me permission again to hunt the grounds. Last time found good coins but no old silver; was hoping to find seated coins this time.

Started near where I found the 1809 Half Penny and started to dig a few Wheat Pennies when got a nickel signal. Dug in and out popped a V Nickel. Thought alright now we are starting to find the old stuff again. Filled hole and swung the Pro over and it sounded off again with a nickel signal. Dug in again and out came another V Nickel.; this time probed to see if got all and another nickel sound and out came a third V nickel. Nice little spill.

Got a nice sound and thought maybe this is a seated I was looking for; dug in and saw a large disc; it was just a Large Penny. Disappointed but still elated found my 3rd Large Penny this year. Got a nickel signal and out popped a Jefferson; so now I am thinking could I get a slam and find a Buffalo. Went a few more feet and got another nickel signal. Dug in hoping for a Buffalo......well was I disappointed; it was my second Shield Nickel of the year!!!! A few more feet away go that nickel sound one more time.....my 3rd Shield Nickel; both were 1867.

Started to find a few Indians now; so I had a penny slam...Large Cent, Indian, Wheat, Memorial. I was hoping for the Grand Slam by finding my first Flying Eagle Penny-did not happen today.

I had to change the battery pack so went to my truck to change and check in on Security. They were happy so back out I went. I decided to go to the other side near the 1793 Church. Started to find more Indians and Wheats. Got a nice twang and thought maybe now silver; dug in and found another large Penny. So still no silver or Buffalo.

Finally got that nice twang and dug in hoping and there she was...a Seated Dime, the last one but I was still happy!!! Got a deep silver signal and though maybe a quarter. Well out came a silver disc with what looks like a button on the back. Inside on the back it says W&H on top and you can see the word Sterling on the bottom. Is this a cuff link possibly?

Now I was concentrating on Nickel signal to get that Buffalo. Got a nickel and thought come on....was a War Nickel. Now I said wow just need that Buffalo for a Grand Slam. Got another War Nickel. I though it was just not going to happen as I needed to get home. I was persistent by digging all the Nickel signals and was rewarded with a few pull tabs, OK a lot of them.

But then it happened, got a Nickel sound dug in and YES a Buffalo. Found all the Nickel coins.

Here is a listing of the finds today:
1891 Seated Dime
1867(2) Shield Nickels
1901 1903 1907 V Nickels
1913 Buffalo
1820 and 1847 Large Pennies

Here are some pics, I am sorry about the quality of the pics, I just do not know how to clean up the nickels and pennies to look as good as most of the posted ones here.

Great site with good finds. Congrats to you.
Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

I don't think I would be disappointed to find a large cent...

Very nice finds !!!

:please: Unreal !!!! :clapping: Thats all I got to say about that.

thats kickin A** congrats

Very nice finds, especially the seated dime and the large cents. That's also a big group of Indian heads. That silver thing might be a cuff link. The W&H on it might stand for Whitehead & Hoag who were prolific issuers of tokens and medals, among other things. HH

Sounds like you need some company over there to help dig all those sweet finds!!! Job well done!

Thanks for the comments!!

I still have about 50% of this site to hunt yet. I will continue to post the finds here.

Maybe when done I will put a toal for all the finds at this location.

Great hunt, thanks for showing us the digs!

A very fine job, jessiree -
