NICKELS

Hey gentlemen. Here's my question. Its hard to find much fault with the Deus, but this might be one. My nickel finds went through the roof when I starting using a higher frequency, but they still don't give a sharp knockout tone like some machines. But more importantly, I don't remember finding many deep nickels except war nickels like I have with the CTX. I know it's whats under the coil so am I just unlucky heretofore or is this a genuine weakness? Ive found a lot of the higher conductivity metals at incredible depth. Thanks!

The deus will hit nickles very deep,i've found v nickles deeper than my pinpointer...

I find a bunch with my deus war v buffs with no problem

With higher reactivity (4-5) and 17khz freq. I started finding them way more than with any other machine I've used (MXT might have gave it a good run). When I started going deeper, 8" is about the deepest so far in the last 3 months of owning the Deus, I was also running a lower reactivity and it seemed that most of the deeper ones would hit in the low 70's and even high/mid tone with full tones, so I thought it was just deeper aluminium.. to my surprise it wasn't.

Thanks TN Mike. I'm not a big notch guy but do notch the little 70's window which is mainly where a lot of pulltabs lie. Will unnotch and try digging the deeper ones and see what happens.

One things for certain, if your hunting in a place that could have deep old coins, notching with the Deus is a bad idea due to it up averaging the ID. The deep nickles I dug did bounce down into the 60's but also bounced into the 70's. Deep copper pennies would hit in at 94 and silver quarters and dimes all the way up to 98. I think orientation has a great deal to do with this as well but the Deus defiantly will up average the VDI on deeper targets.

Also, the only time I run a reactivity higher than 3 is when I'm hunting clad less than 6" and am swinging hard and hunting fast. I do this if Im getting a quick hunt in, otherwise its reactivity 3 or less and low and relatively slow. Just didnt want you to think I was hitting nickles at 8" with a reactivity of 4-5.

Today, was hunting an old park, where you have to run hot to find any old deep coins. Took out the little bit of notch I had in and got a good deep tone at 78 which is"never" a coin on 18hfz. I was shocked when I pulled out a 1920 wheat. This time the tone was running lower at depth but I believe it was because the coin was split down the middle. Can see why some folk don't even use the remote but just listen for tomes. thanks

About how deep was that 1920 wheat?

More iron than trash, I think it was the iron plus the coin being bent made the deus think it was a pull tab, but the tone was good.

I have dug quite a few 10" deep nickels using Deus with 11" coil.
Even in my not so gentle soil minerlized wise.

Gotta watch using 4khz and 8 kHz though.
The 12khz and 18khz freqs are the ones that seems to strike the deeper nickels.

WOW! Finding 10 and 12 inch nickels and buttons, that's great. Not happening where I'm digging. Congratulations! Have to change my settings to see if I can pull a 10 inch item.

What I hate about detecting this old farm is there are bits of bent wire here and there.
I circle all the way around it and the sound and numbers are pretty consistent for being copper or silver only to dig it up and find it's a bit of bent up wire.

This sort of encapsulates the dilemma those of us who must really dig deep face Squirrel1. I sometimes feel I must run an area four times, 2 times NS-EW low CO and 2 times NS-EW high CO to hit both both deep nickel-gold and copper-silver.
