No Pulse! Sand Shark!

I was getting a headhunter pulse,but they are out of stock.I was getting the headhunter pulse for the ultra light weight design.I may change my order for a sand shark.Can i assemble the shark easily when i arrive at the beach.I think i should go hip mount.I have to bicycle to the beach.I think for sure i am getting the shark.Any tips on best travel setup?Does the control box hook in easily either front or rear arm rod mount? :O

The new Sand Sharks have hardwired connections at the control box for the coil and the headphones.
This makes it a little troublesome for breaking down the detector for traveling.
However the control box is easy to move from the grip mount to the under cuff mount on the rod.
I have mine mounted at the rear and it is very well balanced for swinging for long periods of time.
I love this little detector.. very well built and does excellant at the salt water beaches.. have also had very good luck at fresh water swimming lakes although I was told that I would be digging too much trash with it.
I have no regrets about buying this machine.. I think you will be very satisfied with it.

I've got both; can't go wrong with either. Sand Shark is very stable running and easy to set up and use. Will be affected by some interference at some locations but that is no different than the HH Pulse. Battery life is much better with the Sand Shark.

The box the Sand Shark comes in measures 21.5 X 8.75 X 4.5 inches. It is easy to get it back into the box. I'd think that you could pick up a similar sized "carry on" bag, maybe just a little deeper, and pack the detector, lunch and water in it and strap it to a bike rack. Probably also fit in a large back pack.

If you are disassembling the rods for every trip, then they should not get stuck and it won't be a problem packing it all up. It takes a few minutes to assemble and wrap the cable around the rod, and a few minutes to disassemble and pack up.

The box clips readily on the rod. I like the detector clipped on the back side of the upper rod. In my opinion, that position makes the Sand Shark the best balanced, easy to swing all day set up I've used. HH Pulse is light weight and thus easy to swing too; but even with the box weight, the Sand Shark does not take much more effort; it balances that well!

The 10.5 inch coil on the Sand Shark can catch on rapid water movement and flip the coil position on the rod. The 8 inch coil has a smaller total surface area and does not have the same issue with catching the water. The HH Pulse big coil is just plain nice to use in the water. That all said, I still run the Sand Shark with the 10.5 inch coil because it covers more area and is just a little deeper than the 8 inch coil.

The headhunter pulse is not being made any longer.So i got the shark!.I mean if i am getting serious in the surf a lifetime warranty helps.I plan to start hanging closer to the beach so i got to be right.I ordered the big coil. :O

Thanks tvr and crawford.Even though the shark is a older pi detector,it has proven itself over time.The construction of the headhunter had me a little worried anyway.There are more and more nice pi detectors hitting the market.I feel i have three Tesoros already so one more would not hurt.I plan to really start hunting a lot.The shark may not hit as small of gold as the headhunter but i still think this detector will be perfect for walking the wet salt shore.I may just hip mount it to leave the rod real light.Anderson shafts makes some nice carbon fiber shafts for the shark.They are super nice. :O

I really enjoy using mine in salt water and fresh water.

Make sure you get a scoop with small holes in it.. you'll be surprised at the small items this detector will pick up.

The headhunter pulse was such a innovative detector.A powerful pulse all built in the headphones.We need some innovation.But with everything being jammed in the headphones made me wounder.Should Tesoro work on a new pulse?I think this sand shark came out in like1999?.The shark has such a nice VCO output tone from seeing vids.Anyway i was just thinking of the headhunter and thought i would type something.It's a shame the headhunter is not being made anymore.I love the comfort in knowing i got a Tesoro.
