hi what do you think would be the cause when you turn on the mode switch but no sound from the speaker only when you plug in the head phones .Everything works 100% .Your help would be appreciated .Regards john Coinmmaster 4000series 3

Could be a bad solder joint or a blown speaker...
My bet is there's dirt or oxidation in the headphones jack. There's actually a little spring-loaded contact switch inside the jack itself. That's how it turns off the main speaker when you plug in. If it gets dirty it'll run in headphone mode even without a plug in the jack.
Try turning it off and putting a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and insert it gently in the headphone jack. Then plug in and unplug the headphones multiple times. See if that clears it up....

Can you see the 'working side' of the jack by removing the battery compartment door? Just curious... Might be easier to clean that way.
