Noisey, eight inch Tornado, talking back to me....:crylol:

I'm noticing alot of falsing when I bump the coil into things, especially with the eight inch, Tornado coil. Not so much with the ten inch coil. Has anyone else noticed whether or not theirs does this?

I've had a couple other Sovereigns, including a GT and can't remember any of them falsing like this one does, at least not from bumping into things. But then again, I have never had an eight inch Tornado coil. Maybe it is the nature of the beast?

Thanks in advance, bottlebum

Now that I'm thinking about it, I can't remember if I was getting a false signal or losing the threshold tone. Hmmm...i'll have to try it again, just to make sure. It was one or the other, maybe both.

I still havn't tried the 800 coil again but did notice that the 1000 coil did kind of the same thing. I noticed it whenever I had the sensitivity set up above 12:00, say in the 10:00 range. That might have been the reason for the noisy 800 tornado. (sensitivity set too high)
I keep putting off trying the 800 out again because I hate removing a coil from my detector once it is wrapped and velcroed on. plus the fact that the 1000 is working too good to take it off.:detecting:

I normally don't like the 10 inch Sovereign coil on the older Sovereigns that were the BBS10 coils, but when I got the new Tornado coil on my Elite when I had it seem to be much better so I didn't change it to my 8 inch coin search coil. Now with the GT I also find this 10 inch coil has been working good for me and I got the 8 inch Tornado too and never put it on yet, but will have to give it a try.
I have been told by many this 8 inch Tornado coil is as good as the older coin search many want and this one is waterproof so I will have to give it a try one of these days.
I haven't been getting out too much for health reasons and when I do been using my SE Pro and trying to understand the F-75, but when I go to a well worked site my GT come out as I know this detector can do the job I want.

If you do get a chance, try out the 800 tornado coil. I am curious to know whether or not you get the same results that I did when running with the sensitivity above 12:00. (very unstable) Would sound of at the slightest bump.
I just recently bought a used F-75. It's supposed to arrive Tuesday and i'm kind of anxious to try it out.

Do you like your SE Pro? I've seen alot of finds being made with the machine.

Sorry to hear that you are in poor health. Hope you're better soon.:sadwalk:

Not sure if this will help, since I don't have the Tornado, but I noticed the BBS 8" coil,--which I used extensively for a year--did it a good bit. I normally run my sense as high as I can. Usually somewhere between 9 and 12.

Yea, i'm probably concerned about nothing. It's probably just the nature of the beast.

Sounds like your sens setting is to high. Its not important as to how high you set it but the correct setting of it for where your working it. Ive used both of those tornado coils and those are the best minelab has ever made for the sov in my opinion.

example: I just got an X12 for my Explorer from Rick and I keep the sens right about 21 on it at the beach, its most stable there and gets phenominal depth. Now the stock slimline I can run the sens up to 27 or so and its still stable but doesnt get the depth of the Sunray coil. So I think you have to adjust for each site and when you change coils that may mean changing the sens setting best for that coil. I found the tornado coils more sensitive than all the other coils minelab makes. I used to run the tornado coil I had on my Sov, the 10" one on a Sov GT between 2 oclock and 12 oclock at the beach. This gave it really good depth and also good iron ID, which will also falter with higher sens settings.

Thanks Neil
I will put your theory to the test tomorrow. This GT is new to me. I had another GT awhile back and if I remember right, when I had the sensitivity too high, I would get alot of chatter through the headphones. I can't remember it sounding off after (lightly) bumping into things. It is possible that I have forgotten that fact. I'm going to try and get out for a little while tomorrow, using the eight inch coil, to see if maybe lowering the sensitivity will alleviate the problem. I believe it will because I noticed today that if I ran the sensitivity higher than about 11 o'clock, the ten inch coil did pretty much the same thing.

Thanks for your help guys

I didn't like the 10" coil that came with my XS2a, and picked up an 8" Coinsearch to use instead. Love the Coinsearch, it gets better depth, and far better separation.

I didnt care for my BBS 10 coil either and went for the 8 inch coinsearch coil which worked so much better for me. Now I have the new 10 inch Tornado coil on my GT and the Elite when I had it and this is a much better coil and does well for me. The 8 inch Tornado coil is suppose to be as good as the coinsearch and is waterproof too, have one here, but havnt tried it yet.

Rick do my eyes deceive me, or did I read somewhere that you bought a Fisher F70 ?

I wouldn't mind trying the 8 or 10 inch Tornado coil, I hear it's a lot lighter then the BBS versions, but I am very impressed with the 8 inch Coinsearch. I want to try my 12.5" Sunray Intruder for deep silver turf hunting....soon

I have just got a F-70 and have had a F-75 over a year plus my GT and a SE Pro so I like to try them all if I want to help people with them.
I still haven't tried the 8 inch Tornado coil yet on my GT but I do have one as the 10 inch Tornado coil works so good for me I been leaving it on the GT. That 8 inch coin search coil is a real winner if you are not in water and been told the new 8 inch Tornado is as good and yet waterproof. The only other coil that impresses me for the Sovereign is the 12 inch Sun Ray Intruder coil as they are good for those that know their Sovereign as they separate good and have great depth. I did the field test for park hunting with it and was very impressed at what it could do.
I still feel the Sovereigns have a better ID system and get deeper than most detectors out there and find the Explorer seem to have a slight depth advantage.

I think I'll be picking up a F70 this summer. Rick do you carry Fisher ? One nice thing about the F70 is the weight (or lack thereof), but from what I've been reading it's a great coin hunter and goes deep, and even deeper in the slow search mode.

I'm planning to test the 12" Sunray Intruder coil out this weekend for some turf park silver hunting. Any tips ?

I've used it at the beach and it works great there.
