Normal or Long response

I've used normal response since I got my ETrac, 2 years ago...I recently saw a video where Long tones seemed to make a signal more...obvious.

Do you always stick with 1 response or have you switched depending on where you're hunting?

Thanks!

I've had a Trac since this spring and have tried them all. For the last month I've been using "Pitch Hold" It took some getting use to at first. Good signals seem to give a solid flutey audio response and the threshold changes pitch and holds till next signal. I've actually had deep targets that produced a threshold pitch change without a tone signal. Switch to Quick Mask and verify there is a good target and dig. Between Smooth and Long I liked long better. I think there is some merit to long and smooth as far as holding a good target tone especially in trashy ground. It's probably more of personal preference and what you can handle as far as audio response. Did switch back and forth between PH and Long for a while but pretty much sticking with PH even in clean ground anymore. Tell you the truth I can't hardly stand normal anymore. Giving them all a try is the only way your going to find out what you like and what works for you. Hunter

Normal, aren't you? LOL

It seems to be the best for me, GL with whatever you choose

I like smooth

I use smooth because I think I get more depth and normal when the area is trashy. I think I read that goes4ever uses normal so that should tell you something...like do whatever he does.

I have tried em all and normal gives me best luck, especially since I use no pinpoint button and only wiggle method. Normal is only one I can get to accurately work this way

I think long is better for deep targets and in trash, for deep iron is better too- you can get more sound info. Its looks like its more natural signal from target under coil than normal. Try experiment in air and you will see very clearly different. possibly coil can move slower with long too, but I not done any experiment to know exactly numbers, I just always use long. But for most targets I think its no different.

I use Normal! Is smooth find deeper coins?
not in my opinion, why would it?

Etrac Instruction Manual, page 62;

Long
Offers an almost continuous audio response. This
setting is ideal for responding to several targets close
together. It is recommended for the experienced user,
who can pick the tonal differences between various
targets. Long can be a little confusing for the
beginner but has the potential to offer greater
accuracy and depth

Don't know exactly what that means from a technical standpoint, but someone at Minelab thinks it adds something.
