NORMAL SPEED

New member
i have had my etrac for about five months now and i must say i swing at the normal speed i have tried the slow swing but i dont think it either increases my finds or misses targets with the sef coil 12 x 15 i just swing at about tempo of a waltz 123 123 and i have loads of good finds does anybody else detect in this way or are you all swinging slow just wandered

well thats a load of twaddle ive just wrote sorry guys i mean i dont feel the slower speed increases my finds and the faster speed doesnt miss targets thanks

every detector has a [ DEAD TIME ] this means when the detector is ran over a discriminated item it has to reset to detect the next item the etrac has a fast processor so the dead time is very short . The slower sweep speed allows more time for the etrac to reset in trashy areas and the less that is discriminated on your machine and you know your tones the less dead time and more finds

oh so what you are saying is that the slow speed helps with recovery and if we are using an open screen in TTF then we dont actually need it thats perhaps why i dont feel it helps interesting

I swing about HALF AS FAST. In TTF as in coin mode.....because when I am in TTF I am on a site that is loaded with iron.

I think sweep speed is relative to the target response time the detector, how much discrimination I am using and the number of targets that I have to process at any given time. Notice I said targets that I have to process. I believe the E-TRAC can keep up (speed wise) with most of the other detectors I own. I slow down the sweep in congested places because I want to analyze everything going on with the E-TRAC's audio. In an open screen with a smaller than stock coil, I'd guess my typical sweep is about 2 seconds left, 2 seconds right. I do that until I hit a spot with mixed or multiple signals, then I slow down to separate the targets by working the coil from multiple directions. If I am in an area where I feel implementing some rejection is beneficial, when I hear a target signal or nulling (target blanking), I will again slow down and work that area to separate the targets and minimize target masking. In either case, like I said, I don't slow down as much for the sake of the detector as for my being able to discern the audio responses. JMHO HH Randy

The more targets I hear per sweep, the more I slow down.

surgar,

you never said you were in TTF in the first place if your wide open dont warry abut it [ please be specific ]

sorry for that didnt understand that it was even relative until i read some of the above posts now i understand the reason for you going into the slow mode i am still learning and i am not into technical stuff i admire the members on this forum that spout technical information that is clearly above my head so i was just stating that i swing at normal spped without a problem and now i know why thanks again guys question answered WOW

absolutely!!!!! 100% the same way I am.........I like to hear it all. If there is a lot of targets you HAVE to slow down

In the short time I've had my ET and started running TTF yesterday I found I can ""Wiggle"" out coins from trash . I'm hunting a VERY old township That I don't think anyone's ever hunted before ..
I've been digging pretty much the 12 line but today I had a 10-44 that just sounded good to my ears . It was a 1911 wheatie .
Near the end of the day I had beeper overload and went to the stock coin mode but I like the TTF . I bet TTF is a MONSTER in a clean field !

wow, if you have ONLY been digging the "12" line your skipping a TON of good targets including many coins! I have noticed especially in TTF the FE number can be MUCH lower. See the quarter in my avatar? 1877 CC seated, it was a solid 06-46 from two directions. If I was only digging the 12 line, I would have missed my best coin of 2010. Indians and wheats can be all over, clear down to 01 on the FE scale. When I am using TTF, I pay more attention to CO number and depth as my indicators to dig

ive tried the wiggle a couple of times but not very good at it i will have to try it again as i think it is a useful tool to weed out those hidden goodies thanks
