I went out around 6 pm to a site where I had found silver. Got skunked except for 4 Wheats, a George VI Canadian Cent which was stuck to one of the Wheats, a big key, and some clad. Now my goal was one silver coin and my reward was going to be beer and whiskey at the American Legion if I got one. I fancied a beer but I had no silver in my pocket. On the way home I stopped at another good silver site. There I dug three coins. 1928 Merc. 1944 Wheat. 1957 Wheat. I hnow had silver in my pocket but it was getting dark so off to the Legion I went. Got good and drunk and came home to post this. Thank God for the spell checker.

I'm regularly finding about $3-5 a hunt w/my Ace. I'm just waiting for that gold ring or something to get excited about. I guess I should show'em more. School will soon be back, maybe some rings will appear. Is anybody really that interested in looking at just coins?

nice hunt Chris  those merc"s are sweet looking coins.

Sweet silver there buddy. You're killin' me, you're makin' me wanna go out in this dreaded heat just to try to keep up. (Like that will ever happen:rofl:)

Slingshot, To me, it's not so much about the finds but more about finding it. I'm happy just to get out, if I find stuff that's even better and if I find what I'm really looking for then it's blue skies and sunshine for the rest of the day, at least.

Three to five bucks a hunt may not seem like a lot in itself but to round up that kind of loot takes some doing so I always try to look at everyone elses finds no matter what they are and I doubt that I'm alone so post away. BTW, that something to get excited about could be one dig away.

I think most folks here enjoy looking at photos of most anything. Most of my sites are clad heavy so much of what I post is "just coins." I'm sure there are a lot of purists out there who think 100 modern coins isn't much of a hunt but there always seems to be an interesting story to go along with even the most "unsuccessful" hunt. Clad adds up quick too. In the past two years my clad total is close to $3,000.00. The gold, silver, and relics are the icing on that cake.

We're finally into the dog days of summer here too. Hot and humid weather to continue for a while. I've been getting out close to sunset lately but I have a feeling I'm out of business for a short time now. I recently saw a news story about how Austin, TX has had 50 or 60 days with temps over 100. That would kill even my desire to detect.

Hoping you get out soon.

I'm very fond of Mercs too. Official name Winged Liberty Dime. As a boy I used to same up my allowance, which was a dime and later a quarter a week, and then head off to the coin store to buy one for 60 cents. Sadly, when I became stupid teenager and silver prices spiked I sold them all, luckily at a huge profit. I still have a very worn 1921D (second most scarce date) from those days which I refuse to upgrade in my collection today. It's in a ratty old 2x2 that I placed it in around 30 years ago as a 10 year old. I had a metal detector back then too that I got with green stamps. Wish I still had it.

Tripping down memory lane again.

Nice finds cwilk. Gotta find me a merc.

Chris, you continue to kill the coins ... both clad and silver! Congrats on some more great hunts! :clapping:

My excuse its been too damn hot! 105 heat index everyday and then the storms move in. I have been getting heat exhausted way to much lately (dizzy when I stand up) signs to head into the AC. Then my wife has been keeping me very busy with honey do's!

Thats why I have not been posting:sadwalk:

Haven't been able to get out...
