Not as easy as some may think...

There is a lot of digging that goes into finding gold. This is the last 3 days of hunts. I go out for 3 to 4 hours at a time, usually in the early morning. I don't usually post all the crap I dig, nor do I usually post silver rings. I figured I would show the amount of targets I dig to find gold. The ring is 14k and weighs 6gr. It was in the water waist deep.

I know your right! You got to dig a lot of trash to find the gold. GREAT finds and CONGRATS on the gold.

To me that actually looks like a very good ratio of rings to coins and junk. And a 1 to 1 precious metal to junk ring ratio is good too. With what the price of silver is doing, they are becoming great to find too!

Man, I enjoy your posts, just to see liquid water, and some good finds all winter was great. We are just about there, ice should be gone in a few weeks. But we will be bundled up in chest waders, neoprene gloves, and all that...although by Sept the water is as warm as it will ever get, the tourists all gone, and hopefully deep old gold still left!

I've often thought that if we posted all of the junk finds along with the highlight reel stuff, there would be a lot less competition out there.

Thank you for seeing mt post the way it was intended. I have read threads or posts here and "there" of how some people don't like posting the finds because it makes others want to go hunt "there" beaches.

We all know that actually go hunt, It's not easy work. It's fun, but not easy. Especially in the water!

So I figured I would post a few finds WITH all the other metals that come with the gold. I am one of those that usually digs all targets (except iron). That doesn't mean that I don't pretty much know I'm digging a pop top or pull tab, but you never know. Plus I don't want to hear the same target tomorrow.

Hi Chris, I sure miss hunting with you in that sunshine!!! I looked closer at a couple of the cool things I found when I was down there with you and one is a .925 silver ring, small, but silver and the heart shaped earring, turned out to have 21 diamonds in it. The Jamaican coin is a $20 coin, so with all the clad, misc earrings, rings, English pounds, and local coins, I'm thinking I wish I were back there again, but for a month this time!!!
I did get my Excal w/10" and am working on the waist set up. Here in Michigan, we need chest waders, and dive suits to be able to stay in the water for more than a few minutes until it hits 80 + degrees, so I have that to look forward to also.. YIKES!!! ) lol

Ahhh but here's the rub my friends... If no one had promoted the hobby, would any of us gotten our start? Lots of people see these posts and even more buy metal detectors every year (with or without encouragement) but, if you don't love it, you quickly give up and sell. I've seen it first hand. It's always more work than treasure and some people once they realize the gold doesn't "jump" into the scoop have the realization it's not quite for them. Some however, love it for what it is, a chance to enjoy the outdoors, to get a little exercise, to make like minded friends, and of course to find things that without us, would have been lost forever. Just my 2 cents

I think your ratio, crap to gold is pretty good, i'll probably dig 3 times that to get to the gold, sort of puts things into perspective, especially for the newer guys and the get rich quick beach hunting idea.
