I moved to florida about 6 months ago, and i use to detect up north boston, jersey, mostly parks and beaches too, I have always used my etrac and i know the machine well. I have gone out to the Ft. Lauderdale beaches every weekend for the last 5 weeks, and i get there early 5-6am till 1pm and I mean i cant find a single thing other than clad and foil, So today i thought maybe it was my machine so i went to a park for the first time and i find my fist gold ring. But im still bumed that i cant find anything at the beaches here I mean i hunt the cuts the low tide line the dry and wet sand i guess the beaches im going to are all dug up or im loosing my touch and getting old! Any advise for beach hunting in Florida vs jersey let me know

the beaches here are hunted out mid way and down by the water. Everything I have been finding lately is up high by the dune cuts. Also I did do good a few weeks back I think all the hunters just cleaned it out for the time being until some more sand moves or we get some depositor's.dont let it get you down though it is tough right now. just keep at it and something will come up GL HH
thanks powerdetector, its funny now im retired and i always heard from being up north florida is the place to metal detect and all you know the stigma, but i went to late to the a1a spot. i found 2 silver earing. worth 1 dollar! my friend told me to go visit him in port st lucie and he told me if i dont find anything there with him along the coast ( i plan to stay 2 days) THEN he says i should really feel bumed! He claims he finds at least 1 piece of gold wether worth 1$ or 1000$ every week. So ill check it out up there here in ft lauderdale I think u are right its all hunted out! oh you are right i did find those earings in the dunes, not the sand or low tide line cuts.

You will find that the beaches are hunted HEAVILY on almost all the main beaches of Florida. The trick is to find areas that are not as well known and used less frequently if you are dry or wet sand hunting. You migh get lucky and find a fresh drop but overall it is tough especially when gold prices are as high as they are. I've been to the beach and seen tons of detectors being used in an area the size of a few football fields. Especially at South Beach in Miami when the women go topless! Seems that the detectors can sense when women are around! It is amazing how people think that there is gold around these women.
The other option is to get in the water. Water is where it is at. A bit harder to do but well worth the effort. But stay away from the water with that E-trac. I used to use one in shallow water and ruined it when the water got into the shaft and got into the control box. It also got dunked a few times when I accidentally dropped it. So BEWARE!

finders, you are right i went out again today to a private beach here in ft lauderdale friend gave me the code to the garage, had no luck with gold again, had a few good solid 12-12 but they were nickels and the others were foil, im amazed at how deep that etrac can go i found a ball of foil about 14inches down in the wet sand, but im not giving up just yet, i will hunt a few more times in ft lauderdale, then visit my friend up in the treasure coast and take it from there. But like you said THEY ARE HEAVILY dug even the dunes! guess i have to be at the right spot at the right time also.

The more that get discouraged .... the less competition. There is no gold to be found on the beaches of Florida ... so have a

Sand hunting can be seasonal in some locations. What i mean is sometimes water hunting is played out during the winter with no one getting in the water so you cant rely on recent drops. That increases competition on the wet and dry sand by hunters with various skills and equipment not to mention those coming from out of state to get warm. No one gets it all..... but 17 someones put a pretty good dent in it.

I went to Navarre Florida on Tuesday of this week and hunted for about 2 !/2 hous....during that time I found 3 pull tabs and about15 pieces of foil....I did dig on a strong signal to the depth of about 30 inches with my SH Mark II and still did not find what
was there....I got tired of falling into the hole and gave it up..Things will get better when it warms up and the sun lovers go back to the beach....Finderskeeper is right, the best place is in the water about chest deep, but it is to cold for me. Good luck

Don't get discouraged. I've hunted Florida beaches for years primarily up and down the "Treasure Coast". Finds can be slow especially in the Treasure beach areas. My cousin and I have hit these beaches for days and days and have walked away happy if we "broke a buck". Of course the treasure coin beaches are not that heavily tracked by tourists so recent clad and jewelry finds can be limited. We've done a bit better at some of the beaches where you have to pay to park. They have facilities so people will go for the day etc. Large wide beaches can be tough because people are spread out I prefer more narrow beaches especially near inlets with rock jetty's. People tend to be drawn to these man made and natural features.
A few comments were made regarding competition and it is real. We went to one beach and found the local crew there they were relaxing with and adult beverage in the picnic area but when they saw us heading to the beach they mobilized. Once down on the beach after a bit of hunting we had a chance to talk with the leader. He told us that this was there main beach and asked if we had found anything. Targets were few and he told me it was because he and his buddies had scoured the beach and cleaned it of everything even trash so the good finds would be easier to get. Basically these guys hunt this and a few other beaches just about everyday.
No matter what beach you go to work the main path down to the blanket line check out the blanket line and then work some W's in the wet sand. Better areas will be in front of Hotels and resorts.
Of course as has been commented on above the best and higher concentration of finds will be in the water. Even if you can only get knee deep or into the first trough. Of course don't go in the water in the treasure lease areas. If you want to get motivated on Florida hunting Check out Gary Drayton's books he also has a web site. Another good hunter who posts on you tube is digginrings = very successful. Another site that gives daily updates is Thetreasurebeachesreport blog spot.
