As most all ready know; the use of coils larger than10" will get very heavy and tie the arm after
just a short time. If you are on the small side or have more than a few year's on you or have
a health problem this can cut you very short on the size of the coil's you can or would like to
use. I fall in that group! I like to use large coils but can no longer swing them for more than a few
minute's at a time; and that stop's me from hunting a very large area on any hunt. So I set out to
figure out a way to put me back in the hunt like I use to. The answer was to build something other
than be to not only carry the detector with large coils but be able to swing it as much as possable.
After trying it out I think I'am on the right track; at least for where I hunt and it's condition's.
Under stand this is a prototype only at this stage and may have change's made with more use.
The first photo is my MineLab SD2200d with 18" mono coil; second is Sov. with 15x12 SEF; and
the third is my excal 1000 shown with 10" coil, but soon to be changed to WOT 15". The last show
how it break's down for transport. The only metal used is the axle; U-bolts as needed and the two
keeper pin's that hold it together. The wheels are heavy duty plastic with rubber tread 14x1 3/4"
from Lowe's. Yes there are a few short coming's to it; Hard to pinpoint with the 18" coil due to
it being fixed where I can't turn it up on edge but it get's better as I use it. Can't use the SD2200d
or the 18" coil in the water ( or any of the other coil's for it ). Works find with the Sov. and 15x12
SEF but there again not for use in the water. Don't really need it for the EXCAL but it fit's the shaft
so why not ( wet sand with 15" WOT for long walk's is where it will shine ). That's where I'am at so
far with this project. Maybe this will start you thinking and give you some IDEA's that can make
your hunting not quite so hard on you.Have added a bumper on the front to be able to set a
water jug on it to act as a counter weight so when useing small coil it won't tip backward's or
when what ever digging tool is set on it. Feedback and comment's welcome.

Please keep thinking outside the box, I am only 60 but know my knees are not going to last till 70. As we M / Detectorists get older we will need different tools to help us in our quest for "that special ring", keep sending pics.

I think that is a really cool unit. And it shows that your mind is top notch and always thinking of things. Keep up the great work because it's ideas like this that keep us all thinking.

add scoop holding bracket and get some nice diggers like these two

bingo..............i like it when a plan comes together

I like your design but I would turn the coil 90* so I could cover more ground without having to swing back and forth  . Hey it is raining here and I got nothing else to do but read the forums. My F75 LTD is supposed to get here this afternoon and naturally it is raining.. HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

looks good so far -to eliminate metal axel try useing pvc and some fttings-use large enough fittings as to allow a piece of schedule 40 or even 80 to rotate freely in hole- and maybe make it narrower for tighter places-Iv'e got bad knees and shoulders so I know what your going thru-getting old isn't what its cracked up to be-good luck on project and hunts

I like the way the short one is holding the lifting handle Max:surprised::blush::blush:

JW...Take it from me, it ain't no picnic when you got a Nitro...Many a time I would rather be swinging the excal

Hey XT18000,
I like the way you think... and I think your idea is a good one!
If you ever have plans for a patent be careful what you show...
it can be stolen, or become public domain!
Don't worry about what material to use until you have your idea perfected.
Some of the best ideas are so simple they are overlooked.
And never overlook the obvious, as many do!

Example...

Add one line to this... IX ...and make it a 6

Ihave no plan's to patent this thing, built it only to make swinging large coil's eazy again.
At 70 I no longer want to work to make money ( What a concept !!!! )
When FUN become's WORK it is no longer FUN and that's something people just
cannot get through there thick head's. You only go down this road one time; ENJOY IT!

I think it great also. I was hunting today with a friend that's a crazy insane gadget maker. It was his first time hunting. His first thought after digging a few targets was a self propelled GPS metal detector that runs around targeting spots and spraying paint when it finds a target. He has built Lawn mowers via GPS. He said all you have to do is give it were it can't go outside of in Lat Longs! Its like a Rumba Vacuum and just starts in a circle till it hits something and goes the other way Then you can dig as it hunts! Sounds nuts but it could work. steve
