As most all ready know; the use of coils larger than10" will get very heavy and tie the arm after
just a short time. If you are on the small side or have more than a few year's on you or have
a health problem this can cut you very short on the size of the coil's you can or would like to
use. I fall in that group! I like to use large coils but can no longer swing them for more than a few
minute's at a time; and that stop's me from hunting a very large area on any hunt. So I set out to
figure out a way to put me back in the hunt like I use to. The answer was to build something other
than be to not only carry the detector with large coils but be able to swing it as much as possable.
After trying it out I think I'am on the right track; at least for where I hunt and it's condition's.
Under stand this is a prototype only at this stage and may have change's made with more use.
The first photo is my MineLab SD2200d with 18" mono coil; second is Sov. with 15x12 SEF; and
the third is my excal 1000 shown with 10" coil, but soon to be changed to WOT 15". The last show
how it break's down for transport. The only metal used is the axle; U-bolts as needed and the two
keeper pin's that hold it together. The wheels are heavy duty plastic with rubber tread 14x1 3/4"
from Lowe's. Yes there are a few short coming's to it; Hard to pinpoint with the 18" coil due to
it being fixed where I can't turn it up on edge but it get's better as I use it. Can't use the SD2200d
or the 18" coil in the water ( or any of the other coil's for it ). Works find with the Sov. and 15x12
SEF but there again not for use in the water. Don't really need it for the EXCAL but it fit's the shaft
so why not ( wet sand with 15" WOT for long walk's is where it will shine ). That's where I'am at so
far with this project. Maybe this will start you thinking and give you some IDEA's that can make
your hunting not quite so hard on you.Have added a bumper on the front to be able to set a
water jug on it to act as a counter weight so when useing small coil it won't tip backward's or
when what ever digging tool is set on it. Feedback and comment's welcome.
