Recieved the Compadre and the 8" coil this morning, I couldn't wait to try it so I hardwired the 8" coil. I haven't tried it in the field yet (hope to soon, woke up this morning with white stuff on the ground) but tested it on some different jewelry items & it hits on them just fine even small chains. Sorry for the fuzzy pictures.

How much white stuff are we talking about here? I would have to kick it off and detect any way. That detector is waiting for its maiden voyage. Let us know what you find. You could send it my way and I will try it out. Lol, high here today is 55.
Not enough to say so, just a patch here & there. Will let you all know how it does when I get to try it out. If it happens to snow a bunch and gets really cold lending it out to someone that could use it and would take care of it isn't out of the question.Dirtdigger33 said:

Update...... took the 8" equiped Compadre out in my yard for a quick test. Things disc'd out where they should but am getting some falsing, I get a beep while pushing the coil quickly towards the ground and a beep when quickly raising the coil up away from the ground. Almost like the ground balance is set too positive and too negative

Skiwhiz, When you get ready to sell your Compadre give me first chance at it please.

Went into town late this morning after getting what I had to get at the stores I only had a very short time (about 15 minutes) to try out the Compadre w/8" coil as I had to be back home to get my son off the school bus. I normally set the dial to the I in the word IRON in order to knock out nails, I found that I had to set the dial to the N in the word IRON to knock out the nail with the larger 8" coil. First target was a pulltab, not a good find but it was about 6" deep, I also got a couple pennys, a dime and a quarter. All coins came in loud & clear and the deeper they were the fainter the beep was. Didn't have a problem pinpointing the targets but they were not as "tight" as using the 5.75" coil which is understandable. From the little I have got to try the Compadre with the 8" coil I would say that it is as sensitive as with the smaller coil and has an increased depth. When I get some more free time I will do a measured air test on a clad penny/nickel/dime/quarter.

Interesting. You are getting better on a mid-conductor than the high ones. With the Compadre that I have I get more distance on the quarter than the nickle.
From the modifications forum there is another post that indicates better mid-conductor distance on the Compadre.
With the Cibola and Tejon I get better distance on the nickle than a quarter dime or penny; but not with the Compadre. Got me wondering what might be different.

I got better better distance on every Compadre that I have ever had. I thought that I would get better air distance on coins with the Compade with the 8" coil than I did but I know from using it in an actual in field hunt it is deeper than a Compadre with a 5.75" or 7" coil.tvr said:
