Not much on the F11, F22 and F44

New member
I figured the new line would have more exposure than has been listed,

It is hard to find much on those guys. Been looking at youtube. Every once and a while a new video comes up. I would like to see how they hunt in tot lots? See how close to the poles/fence the coil can get. See how it works in the field/beach? All these air tests?? Never found a coin in the air yet. I am looking because my Compadre is loaned out, might be for the summer? Would like a cheap detector like the F22 to fool around with. Maybe someone will read your post and put up a video for us??? Thanks .....Z

I imagine the 7" coil would do great in a tot lot. very nice coil. actually all the new coils and detectors have been improved on build quality.

Craig I have watched a number of your videos. I really want to thank you for what you do and the guys that take the time to make these videos. These videos help a person evaluate a detector. Really appreciated.....Z

I don't do nearly the amount and/or test I'd like but try to do what I can.

+1 thanks Craig!!

I got my F44 a few weeks ago. I am a new hunter and started with a Teknetics Delta 4000. I went with the F44 because my Uncle has owned fisher for ever. He has been hunting 40+ years. So I trusted his opinion. My son bought the Garret 350 and has out coin shot me by at least 60 %. I am finding that the F44 is a very sensitive system. I am running my sensitivity on ave around 15 out of 20. 12 is default. I have had to bring it down to 11 or 10 at times. Trashy areas are hard to hunt, too many numbers jumping around. However, when you do get a lock on a coin the pin point and target ID has never been wrong. So I created a cheat sheet and put it on my Fisher to know what not to dig. But this may also cause me to miss targets. It also has great separation of hits in a clean area of course. I found 2 qtrs and a dime all side by side about 2 - 3 inches apart at 3in deep. For a while there I have dug every kind of bottle cap you can think of. So I ask myself, Should I have gotten the Garret? Is this Fisher F44 to advanced for me? Any suggestions for hunting would be good. I am also looking at possibly ordering the 8in coil for the F44. See if there is a difference in what I find. Seriously I like this machine, but I have some really bad days where I just get frustrated and think it is not working properly. Big thing here... Ground Balance. How critical is it if ground balance changes? This system has a Ground Grab feature which allows you to adjust GB if there is a shift + or -. Should I do a ground grab every time the arrows indicate that it is + or - ... if this is true then I would be spending more time ground grabbing then actual hunting. This is one of the features I dislike. I did happen to find the oldest wheat penny out of our hunts. 1909 at 6in. No initials or S minting though. BTW the air test is pretty good for this system. Sensitivity max 20 Dime - 7in, nickel, qtr, penny - 8 in, 1/2 $ - 9in, whitegold wed ring -9 in. Trying to learn the hobby of treasure hunting. Also a member of the Michigan Treasure Hunt Club.

Thanks for listening

Dude, no, dont second guess yourself...I hear you though, I once was where you are now, running in AT and watching the screen for fear of missing anything, then I found this Forum and Zeek schooled me!.....you got a really fast machine, way faster and more accurate than any Grig I know of...and I use both!

It just takes a little while to understand what your F44 is saying... go dig 1000 pulltabs and a 1000 pennies as fast as you can, and by that I mean use nothing but a screwdriver...sweep fast and shallow, you will compress your learning curve immensely, you will be light years ahead of your Son in short order!...You have to commit to pulling 100 targets in an hour, so you have no time to dilly dally...Ping, stoop, stab!

I trust my F70..you will look forward to getting into really trashy areas, on account of you know nobody else can hunt them!....

I have not ground balanced my F rig in a few months...just focus on location and listening and pulling as many targets as you can in the shortest time possible in the best pay dirt areas...run soft power and comfortable settings for a long time, like a year or more....you wont miss a thing worth value...If you need me, I'm over by MKG and hunt daily and would be happy to show you how I sling coil...the Frigs are an unusually fast machine, so dont listen to anybody else except us here...
Mud.

Wow, thanks for that confidence booster. I hunt in the Detroit and Downriver areas. Lots of cool places in Detroit all the way down to Monroe. I will heed your advice Mud
Thanks

If I could make a suggestion, Junkminer.

Go to Custom mode, set up all the high coin segments (6, 7, 8, and 9) with VCO tones. Set up the all the other segments (FE, 2,3,4, and 5) as Bass tones. Only recover the VCO tones. That VCO tone will also help you figure out the right sweep speed for that stock coil.

Your coin count should greatly increase and surpass your son's coin count with just that one change.

When checking your ground balance, pump the coil. No arrows when you pump the coil over clean ground means your are fine. Ignore the arrows unless you get arrows while pumping the coil over clean ground. You never pay attention to ground balance indicators unless you are pumping the coil over clean ground. The rest of the time you ignore them.

Good luck,
Mike

Junkminer I wanted to email you but when I got done with the email it wouldn't go because you haven't enough posts to receive an email. That is good, I like that rule.
Mike is right. I was going to say "Just dig high tones" That is what I do. Happy Trails....Z

By digging only the high tones don't you miss the gold jewelry and nickels?

Junkminer, yes you will but it appears to me that you need to take some baby steps and build some confidence in your machine and your ability with it. You keep comparing yourself to your son. The fastest way to increase your confidence (and out coin shoot your son) is to limit your focus by cutting out the trash. That will allow you to out coin shoot your son and his 350. Once you get that wrapped up, then you can start opening it up and allow more targets in.

I'm just wondering what coil you have been using on it. The stock concentric ? I've never had serious issues with bottle caps with mine. I've never used anything but the stock coil on it. There is no need to ground grab every time you see the up and down graph go crazy on the unit. Ground grab correctly on the soil you will be hunting and you don't need to ground grab again for a long time. Ignore that graph, it will drive you nuts. The Omega is exactly the same with the arrows going up and down to tell you to adjust the ground balance. This is one of the reason I like the F5 so much. The live numeric ground phase reading makes much more sense to me.

The F44 is one nervous detector when you set the sensitivity too high. It gets "jittery" real fast. I never run mine at more than 16 and even then, sometimes I have to lower it because the noise no longer makes sense to me. Lower your sensitivity if you can no longer process the sounds it makes. Putting into custom mode instead of jewelry will also help. Be patient with it. I have found great stuff with it like a 1814 half penny and many silver coins. It goes deep when sensitivity is pushed, deeper than my F5. I like hunting in the rain with it. There's no better way of making a rainy or cloudy day fun.
