Not the kind of ring I had in mind!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
Found this 'ring' (of aluminium)!!!! 2 days ago after covering so much of the park and feeling a little frustrated after investing all that time and effort!!
I don't know what it is but there are little to none decent targets anymore in the parks surrounding my home town. I'm finding just small amounts of clad but that's about all I can find. Different set ups, discrimination, trying to find new areas to detect all seem to be futile!! I really need to get back into the groove and start getting some gold targets soon but I'm afraid it'll take some trips to the beach to do this. Hopefully I can break this metal detecting dry spell! Are you finding the same situation in your home town?

P.s. Is it just me but I get the feeling looking at the posts on the Today's Find's and other forums lately that there are only a few out there that are finding decent targets? There are not many fresh posts showing the heavy gold rings/jewellery and decent other finds like in years gone by? If you scroll back in time on the forums, you'll find so many quality finds being detected very often and every day, guy's were finding awesome items. What are your thoughts?

It goes like this way.. I used to detect with some buddies that are racing to find the most coins. Find a target.. pin point .. stick a probe to look.. if it deep they just move to the next target. I take it a little slower do not find as much because I am digging those pull tabs and bottle cap looking for the jewelry & silver coins. Then they just laugh at you for not finding as much clad. Some days I find the ring they flew over. I stopped to look.

Parks and schools are pounded by lots of newbies looking to get rich..picking are slim but they are out there to find

Great comments! thank you......I was venting a little and yes, I slow down in order to enjoy my surroundings and even if good finds are not forthcoming, metal detecting is still a thrill to me as it is, I'm sure to all of you out there. I still feel like there is a lessening of collectible targets that are being detected probably because of the many new detectorists joining the hobby. We just have to be more creative and make better use of the skills we have learned over the years. Now where shall I detect today? Have a great day!

Goldstrike, you asked for comments so here are mine. First off, old finds are a non-renewable resource. Though most old sites are never hunted out, they will become heavily depleted over time. Old finds from common sites are destined to drop off dramatically. Second, many people have learned for one reason or another not to post the big money eye candy that keeps us motivated to pack up the detector and hunt. The finds are still being made, just not always made public. I'm sorry that your common haunts are drying up. It will just force you to work that much harder to succeed in the hobby that you love. Good luck, JJ

Good points JJ. I would agree that some sites will naturally get depleted of finds and yes, I also assume that some don't feel the need to post their better finds like some others do for different reasons. It's still a great thing that some do post those 'bling' finds though because of the motivation factor, particularly for those just starting out (newbies)! perhaps feeling frustrated as they go through the learning curve. It's still the best hobby irrespective of finding or not finding those high value items. Best wishes G.S.

It seems to me, that almost every facet of life has seen it's better days. Times surely have changed. On the other hand, life is what you make of it. I've got the same thing happening in my small town. I'm going to start focusing on door knocking next year.
