recently spent 5 days vacation at the beach.. 1st day on the beach what do I see but massive beach replenishment in progress as the theme music from psycho plays in my head.... I booked 5 days oceanfront for this ??? all was not lost as I found some good beaches to hunt 15 miles on down the road.... managed a little over $ 17 from 3 hunts...saw dolphins one morning and also saw a large fox down at the waterline just before day break... at first I thought it was someones dog but soon realized the tail was way too bushy for a dog....I whistled and yelled at it and it took off... no gold or silver , some junk jewelry... all and all I still had fun.... happy huntin... Where are the Earth Firsters when you really need them?

Good Job on getting what you did! :clapping: Up here they do the same thing, except the suction barge is dredging the channel and pumping the spoil up on the beach...it makes a fellow think that there may be some old coins dredged up, but so far, not the case..
Mud

Probably obvious to others- BUT would that square unit be the screen I keep hearing about?- The one that is supposed to catch all of the possible ship wreck coins/artifacts?

i have been seing this all over the north east here:thumbdown:

I seen that too. Went to Dewey beach last month for a week and they were using the same equipment. But the sand was coming from Bethany beach at the time. I found out that during WW2 part of Bethany was a target range for the shore battery in Lewis. So i dug sand and surf after they moved on . Found a lot of 50 cal, 30cal, bullets and a lot of shrapnel . Great find was brass screw plugs for arti rnds. also $9 bucks in change all clad.So even tho i dug at Dewey i was really digging sand from Bethany.

ya hunter our motel room was in dewey....in dewey I only found one dime in the surf ,rest was junk... the replenishment pics are from rehobeth and the finds are from oc md.. at Bethany I had one nickel to show for 1 and a half hours..

Thanks- never saw one. Read about them many times-but I always thought that they would be on the dredge (for some reason). What size mesh is the screen? Does anything get through?.
Bethany to Dewey- that's some pipe! Are they doing Coin Beach also?

Screen thing sucks :) They do this in some fossil areas also. The 1st screen I heard about was in the phosphate mines in Fla. Megs by the dozen.

I know Bootyhound. I was depressed when i saw the machines. Problem is towns never know when they can replenish the beaches. one worker told me the big screened hopper the pipe ends in is to catch junk, also they have found live ammo, grenades. He didn't know if they were active. But that barge can really pump sand and water.Next good storm will help. I like Dewey the best.

GTzer= it does not appear that very much gets thru... I would guessimate the holes are like 1 x 1 inch squares..... very very little amount of shells every here and there otherwise just fine sifted sand... as far as coin beach--I believe theve done the beach part already but now they are beefing up the dunes toward the road ... I appears that they are killing 2 birds with 1 stone as I think they are pulling the sand out of the inlet to make the dunes... I talked to an army corp guy a few years back and he said they are strictly forbidden to pull sand from a know wreck site.... I can tell that they do have a dumpster that they dump all the shells and screened debris into... where they dump it I do not know but would love to find out just to give it the once over.....

bootyhoundpa- thanks for the info.

I'll get one yet-someday. Of all the times I've been to CB- the 2x I saw the stumps in the clay I had no MD with me.

I've written this before-I was there in the early '60's when they were dredging the sand for the bridge. It was different then.....
You could walk within a few feet of the pipe that was dumping the sand. I didn't even know about the coins & relics at that time. My family & a handful of people were playing in the run off looking for shells & sea life. The stones for our camp fire pit were collected there.

I haven't been there since March. Mentioned it in case you are there when they move the bridge sand. NO screen for that dredging. Ship was N of the inlet taking sand from the area around the CG station-less than a 1/2 mile out.
