Notch process F75 LTD

grumpy

New member
I have a question about notch on the F75 LTD; I have used this machine about 3 years but never used the notch benifit on it. I thought I would like to try to notch in a park and read what is in the manual about notching and I managed to confuse myself enough I decided to see if someone would explain here;
I see listed about 10 groups of notch examples in the book; I want to know if you can take your own range or group and use a notch on them say notch in or out 28 to 30 or 32 to 48??
I think i understand this can be done but not sure seems the book explains how to put the first number of your group but then it leaves me and my brain fog sets in :)

Also anyone really sold on any aftermarket DD eliptical coils in the 5 inch by 10 inch range? I really like that size range and shape and want dd instead of con.
Thanks for the help

I tried a custom setting on a nickel and it acted like it was taking the settings but when I tried the item it was not notched out. I have a buffalo nickel that was coming in at 28 so I tried a notch at 27 to 29 and the nickel was still there.

So I would say no on your custom numbers, but you can set like a half group, like the low side of nickels or the high side of nickels.

To explain how notch works.
If you are running a low disc and set a notch above your disc setting, you will be notching out that item.
If you are running a high disc and set a notch below your disc setting, you will be notching in that item.

I told this to a guy a long time ago, and he came back and told me it can't be that easy, but he would try. Last I heard from him.

When setting a notch I don't try to remember the numbers, I watch slash marks over the item I want to notch.

Also when you start messing with notches I find the best way to clear them is to just do a factory reset to the detector.

[size=large]How to use Notch on the Fisher F75 and Ltd's

It really is simple..the manual appears to make it difficult..and that's only because they forgot to stress the Fixed set of numbers for notching abilities.

In other words if your detecting in a park.. your using Discrimination at 25. all of a sudden your getting a lot of one type of pull tabs. Say it falls in the
#38 Target ID.. Over and over again..You go to notch..press menu dial to the number 38..and press menu. A dash will darken up above on the left side of the tab name on display. You removed the Number 38...but you also removed 36, 37,39,40,41,42,43,44,45.....Because the notch is set up in a fixed set of numbers on each target category..36 through 45 is the lower half of factory set notch numbers in tabs area... You will always remove all factory set numbers when notching out target numbers that is above your discrimination setting...You will always be putting the numbers in with notch if they are lower than your discrimination setting. You need to know these notch fixed numbers to understand the notch system.

Now if your running Discrimination at 40..then the notch system is designed to do just the opposite of Discrimination..So 36 37 38 39 40 will be notched in..
41 42 43 44 45 will be notched out. Notch always does the opposite of the Discrimination. So if you want all the fixed numbers in tabs on lower half out..Move your discrimination to 36 (Get your discrimination number at the lowest fixed number) in the range you want to remove. Before, you set the notch.. It's your choice..but you have to work the two systems together for full benefits.

Thanks for all that info. I think i got that part and i understand you cant take out or in except in groups;
Now my next question i dont see mentioned or anything; Can you notch more than one group at the same time like 31-35 and 46-55 if you want to?
Thanks again the help is great.

You sure can, say you wanted a nickel notch just set that one and say you want one at zincs just scroll up past tabs and set one for zincs. Not saying that would be one you would want to do these settings but you could pick and choose.

Also remember you can do a half group notch if needed.

Won't hurt anything and a simple factory restart will restore all to normal.. I would think you could notch out a couple sets of numbers........

Can i leave the notch all the way down and just use the descrim as my main disc setting?

You don't need to use it at all it's up to you , It's your detector and totally up to you. Just leave it at 1 which is the factory setting.

Shooter has got you covered on this one, I assume you are a little new to the F75. I would suggest you not try to use notch until you get more comfortable with the 75. If you decide to play with it be sure to do a factory re-set after you get done. You can get things really messed up in the notches.

Yep leave it on 1 if that is what it says on your machine
