I remember you posting that you were changing your batteries when the meter droppped the top bar. Then you were thinking you were getting somewhere around 20 hours before that happen. So this is more toward verifying that.
To someone else reading the post, they might think that you only get 24 hours total from a fresh set of batteries, when in reality that is just when the first of the 4 bars on the battery strength display drops to 3 bars.

Buy a charger with 4 AAs at walmart for 10 to 15 $ and safe your money for the next detector.
