Agreed, null is a hit. I think we should redefine depth as being = to deep coins in my pocket at the end of the day that would not be there using other settings.
Sweep Speed - I have confirmed your findings on sweep speed many times, both on the test bench and in the field.
Fast sweep speed method = best depth but poor target seperation and some missed coins.
Slow sweep speed method = poor depth but improved target seperation and some missed coins.
The "Iron/Trash Creep" method = best depth and best target seperation. Warning: Hunting partners may give you the finger for finding too many coins.
