Nulling out

What should I do when my machine nulls out over iron or something?

That is a rather large subject for a small question. One must assume that you are running the coin program out of the box. This being the case the program is set to null iron up to a Fe value that is blacked out on your machine. If you are uninterested in the iron, then keep swinging. If you want to see the Fe value for the nulled target hit the quick mask button and swing over the previously nulled target. Out of the box the quickmask program is set to null nothing, ie wide open or all metal. This will show you that it is indeed an iron target as the machine locks on to a low Fe value target in the 30 to 20 range etc. Sometimes a nulled target will give you a false signal or a high pitched squeak around the edges of its em field. A quick way to determine if it is a false signal is to swing over the squeak in one direction then turn 90 degrees and swing over the spot again, the signal should disappear. My advise to you is read Andy Sabisch's book, "The Minelab Explorer and E-Track Handbook." If you own an E-Track it is a must read, and answers a lot of questions.
Hope this helps,
Nathan

....if you're nulling over iron.....you must be using a pattern that discriminates it.
You have two choices.....either open the pattern right up to accept all metals and use tones to discriminate via audio or continue using your pattern and slow your swing speed right down.
That should help.

All the best,

Gaz.

The E-trac will null when you swing the coil over something you have discriminated.

You should say "Thank You E-trac" everytime you hear the threshold humm null because that means it just eliminated a beep from something YOU don't want to dig.

if I understand it correctly,,, even DURING a null if the ET hits a good target it will sound off,,,, true or not???

If you run trash HIGH (also ground DIFFICULT here in North America unless in sand or a beach/sand area then run normal) and the object in the coins program falls in the WHITE area of the pattern even if you null over iron that falls into the blacked out area it should let the good targets sound through. That is the point of the TRASH HIGH setting it compares the good and bad target and lets the good targets sound through while nulling the bad's. Read up on that in the Etrac manual it explains it well.

Did it today. Found a 1925 Wheat cent 6" deep. When I rechecked the hole after removing the coin my machine nulled over a deeper target. I have seen this many times since I got my E-Trac. A few weeks ago I found a beautiful 1900 s Barber dime 5 inch" deep when I rechecked the hole my E-Trac nulled over a deeper target. Happens all the time. Rick IL
