Have the use of a Safari and I'm thinking of buying one BUT, the flute noise is a real turn off for me .. Can anyone tell me if its possible to have a single beep with this Detector?? Apart from that its a nice unit..

I remember feeling exactly the same way when I bought my Safari. I was thinking to myself did I make a mistake in buying this?....but when all is said and done, the FBS and etc; the multi tones, although annoying at first, will pay off BIG TIME in finds. The tones confirm what is under your coil but the secret is patience. You will get to where you are very comfortable with those tones and although I have other detectors, I guarantee you will love this detector as I do but ONLY if you have the patience to learn what it's telling you.

Safari is a singer.... You will get used to the tones. Get Andy's book and read it. Go to Minelabs web site and view some videos, also youtube...

Your going to like it with some effort on your part.

Nope only multi-tones. I think most people had the same problem going from a single tone detector to a multi-tone detector. The multi-tones give you more info and helps you find masked coins in trashy sites. Once you take your time and learn it, look out you will be finding stuff you have missed with your other detector. I would advise you to practice with it in your test garden to learn the sounds. The one thing I love is if you get a round sounding TDI reading of 14 it is a nickle no matter how deep it is. It is a nickle machine.

Buy the Safari, you will not regret it. I upgraded from the Safari to the SE Pro but not at all because of the flute or other tones but altogether other reasons; I still have the Safari as a back-up. It is great in Virginia soil and I found it to be very reliable on the beaches of SC. To me it was a very easy machine to get used to and very rewarding. When used and adjusted properly, it is a great machine. Ed suggested Andy's book and I do too. With the Safari you can trust the tones but when in doubt, do indeed trust the numbers, I found them to be spot-on.

This is also my advice It will take you a while to get used to the 'singing' but when you do, you will never go back to a limited voice machine. I'm totally sold on FBS tech.
