Observations on Air Tests of 950, 6 X 9, and 5.3 White's Coils (Long)

First this is not by any means scientific, it will
allow an individual to get an idea of what is going
on AND numbers may vary from coil to coil or machine
to machine due to the inability to have everything
equal.
Settings were all the same and I will not go into
detail about depths:
AM= Disc at 0, trigger forward position, sensitivity
at Preset and at Max
Dis. Disc at 3, trigger in ctr. position, and sensitivity Preset and at Max
Coin used was a Nickel:
5.3 White's Coil-AM 8" to 10"
-Ds 7" to 9"
Quite even in 3+ Sens.
Good depth for a 6" coil
6 X 9 White's DD -AM 10" to 12 1/2"
-Ds 9" to 11"
Surprised at these numbers
By far the quitest coil
Stock 950 White's-AM 10" to 12"
-Ds 9" to 11"
I thought that the Stock coil
would out perform the DD but
for the sake of not arguing
about it, they performed almost
identically.
This coil was very loud with the
sensitivity at 3+.
The 14" Excel. coil is going to have
to be tested out in the middle of
nowhere, I couldn't even turn it on
because of the large capture area
it has.
As I say, your results may vary with
an air tests, certainly they will
when the ground matrix is figured into
the equation.
Would some one else like to do the
same as I did and see how your figures
vary. (I was conservative and backed off
a 1/2" or so on my results)
Bottom Line:
5.3 Great performer for it's size
DD Good performer and quite
Stock- Good performer and noisey
Let me hear your input. Thanks for reading
and best to all, Richard'nTn

SETTINGS-- RELIC MODE, 0 DISC, GAIN AT 9
DEPTHS ON A NICKEL
5" EX COIL, 6 INCHES
STOCK COIL, 9 INCHES
14" EX COIL, 11 1/2 INCHES
SETTINGS-- RELIC MODE, 0 DISC GAIN AT +3
5" EX COIL, 9 INCHES
STOCK COIL, 13 INCHES
14" EX COIL, 14 1/2 INCHES
The depths given were the farthest I could get a beep. I would get a vdi reading but not accurate, The machine would ID the nickel 2-3 inches closer than the depths above. Also ran a silent threshold. The test wre done outside with no or little electrical interference. I have found that an audible threshold definately increases depth and sensitivity of the MXT in the dirt.

attention to the VDI but the audio was a good
response.
I would have to say that regardless of which
coil a person is using, there is going to be
an inch or so difference BUT is does allow
one to see that the MXT, in the right hands,
is a contender on any "playing field." Thanks
again, Ray,for the information. Richard
