OBX hunt, old token found....

Did a quick half day hunt down south yesterday to see what it looked like after the last two weeks of stormy weather. Looks like a few areas opened up a little. Still doesn't look as good as last year though.
Found this old token under the pier, thought it was a coin at first, but on one side it said "Shell's" something with some other writing that is covered up. Didn't think too much of it until I was able to make out a date on the other side.....1849 was stamped on the other side with what looks like a partial bust of someone. Pretty cool as that's the oldest coin/token I have ever found!
The rest of the day just got some clad and a few pieces of junk here and there. A few spots in Nags Head look pretty damaged as the same in Kitty Hawk, the entire bulk head at the Kitty Hawk pier was ripped out. A couple houses there are in a pretty precarious position.
Good luck to everyone this weekend,
-Rich

Below is the excerpt from Al,
<EM>Rich,
That token is 20th century. It is one of the tokens that Shell oil gave out. It is probably a president on the back. The year does not refer to when the token was made but to when the president was in office. Also, you won't find aluminum tokens prior to the 1890s as aluminum was an expensive metal until they discovered the modern process for extracting it from its ore.
