Did anyone see that article in Western and Eastern Treasures where the guy was showing how to detect in ice and snow? I love the hobby dearly, but, man, a guy has to draw the line somewhere....I have a foot of snow just south of Seattle, and I have not one inkling of taking the author's advise on how to metal detect in it!!

You can detect in anything, anywhere I suppose but it is really worth it? Imagine spending a couple hours clearing away an area from snow and then only finding 11

I don't mean to pick on you all but...

There used to be this advertisment down here in Florida during the winter months (some travel co. or disney or somebody) on TV back in the (?) '80's or early '90's that showed a man just finishing shoveling the last of about 18" of snow from his walkway or driveway and his "buddy" on the phone (from Florida)saying "HOW'S THE WEATHER UP THERE?" IT MUST BE 85 DEGREES DOWN HERE!" BLAH BALH BLAH Then the whole pile of snow on the roof comes sliding down on his newly shoveled walkway...well it has been about 80'-84' down here in FL and it just doesn't feel like Christmas so I don't know where to go with this but if you have the "holiday weather" enjoy it Christmas in Fl just is not the same as far as I am concerned. We have had Christmas's in the past that we had it very cold (some of you will be LOL I am sure) 40's for highs teens for lows.

I used to live in Poolesville Md. prior to moving to Fl and the year before I moved we had a 3' snow storm. That was the last snow I have had to deal with. I hate to say it but I do miss it (a little).

I would enjoy the holidays "IF" we had it cool like maybe 50's during the day and low 30's at night! perfect holiday weather!

Sorry for you guys in the nasty snow belts.

Anyway I hope all have had a good Christmas and a very prosperous New Years!

PS I have a photo coming that I hope I can get posted of a possible musket ball or some sort of shot that was found about 4"-6" in sand under water in a river swimmming area. My wife and I used our new ACE250's that we got for each other as early Christmas gifts back in November. We went to a well used swimming hole in a river that I new of and of course found more trash than treasures however some change was found as well as this object so as soon as I can get a photo with my new camera I will attempt to post it and hopefully someone can ID it for us. I have researched all over the net and cannot find anything close to it.

Good points: No mosquitoes, no roaches, no gators, no fire ants, no scorpions, no water moccasins, no hurricanes, can't remember the last tornado, no crowds(I'm in WV.), one of the lowest crime rates in the nation and don't even think about speaking Spanish here.

We've got lots of snow here in Vermont and it would be nice to be detecting in Florida this time of year. But remember, when it is summer there, the heat and humidity can get pretty bad... Probably being a " snow bird" would be the best of both worlds.

And that's why I'm going to Florida to visit my Bro in Feb. He says the summers there are not a place to be. He says it's terrible.

We had a "heat wave" today and it got up to 38-40. Snow melting and the roads are pretty much clear. Now............freeze tonight, snow on the way and winter isn't over. NOT FOR A LONG TIME........

The bottom line in what really saps your strength is humidity not so much straight out high temperature but when you have they both together then it gets uncomfortable. RI gets them both in the summer although this past summer we only had a couple weeks of it really baking here so it wasn't a bad summer as usual. I guess depending on what part of FL u are it makes quite a difference. I have never been to FL but I know people who live there or vacation there and depending if you live near the coast, are in the northern part,etc dictates what kind of weather conditions u will b experiencing.
