If I was rich Steve we'd be having a forum hunt up here and I'd pay everyone's way.

Welcome to the forum. I think what is happening is there are a lot of old people who collected Wheats and silver coins over the years. As the old folk are passing away the younger generation doesn't know the value of what their parents and grandparents had so they just use it for money...or take it to one of those machines that give you less than you put in to convert it to dollars. Whoever owns those machines are making a killing both in what they get to keep (percentage of what is put in) and all those old coins.

My wife's grandmother had amassed a large collection of wheat pennies over the years and she passed away a few years back. Her sister wound up with her house and all the contents - including all these rolls and roll and rolls of wheat pennies. They didn't keep hardly anything of what grandma used to have. Where it all went is anyone's guess but we know that the Sister and her kids did not have the value in place that the grandma had on them. We gave the grandma an antique magnifying glass once as a gift. Her eyesight was failing and this was a great gift. We asked if it was possible to get the manifying glass but was told 'everything was taken out to the curb'.

Sad.

Anyway, again welcome to the forum. Do you get much detecint in?
