OK! Boat Towed Coil! What do I need to get Started?

Ok, I need some specifics on getting this project underway. I am a novice and need alot of guidance fom the pros here.
Lets say I use Carl Morelands Hammerhead PI for my electronics and we are making our coil 24" x 36" from PVC pipe and elbos.
Questions:
What type and size wire would I use to make the coil?
How do I determine the number of turns?
Should the PVC coil be epoxie filled?
How should I connect the coil to the RG213 coax?
How would you weight down the fish?
Would a sled design be better or worse for this setup?
Thanks Again,
Robert Gecy

Robert,
I would take a different approach.I am a retired commercial fisherman,been treasure hunting befor 1962,live in N/East FL,about 1- 1/2hr from 1715 plate fleet.
I assume you have a good boat, dive equipement,a sled with controals to keep it about 6" off ocean bottom.A under-Water metal detector.(what PI do you have)
First I would make a large mono coil for the under water detector.A 4ft x2ft coil.mount it on your sled.
with a diver on the sled to controal sled, hear and mark each targets.Speed of sled is important most PI detectors are slow motion,if you go to fast no gold.
I would use a underwater self perpelled tug, stop and check out each target.
Tell us what you have.I supect someone will tell you how to make a coil.
Frank.

Frank,
I live in an area where the water is alway murky and at best we get 3-4 ft visibility in Winter. I would like a sled or fish that I could pull behind to detect non-ferrous objects as well. Already have a Magnetometer but the area I am serching in has lots of indesciminate ferrous objects. I have a target area in mind but feel the search would be better and could cover more area by boat.
Thanks,
Robert

Sounds like you are in my back yard.Oldest city.
I assumed that you found balase rocks and a canon, with your Mag,do you know the name of the ship that you are looking for and what it was carrying.
PI detector will detect ferrous and non ferrous metal.larger the coil, more ground you can cover.
If you ask Eric,He might tell you the largest coil that he ever made and how it worked.
Good Luck.
Frank.
