I feel it is the Sovereign GT hands down. This machine (to me) is the all-purpose, do-it-all machine. I have hit many of the same areas (that I have worked with my other past detectors) and have pulled out many old coins with the GT that the others have missed. I contribute these finds to the iron mask feature. (pulling coins out right next to iron objects) Some people get discouraged with it (including myself - at first...) but I bought a sunray DTI II meter ( still learning the tones) but this combo made it much easier to learn and makes it deadly for any type of hunting. (just my opinion) I also like it because it doesn't have a ton of bells & whistles.
Just pure power ( super deep, excellent seperation) set the dials and go. Disc and notch I don't even use, I go by tone supplemented by the meter. I also notice I find more rings and nickels with this machine then any other machine I have used. The machine is made to sweep slow. Fast sweeping will make one lose target signals. Sweep it slow and watch targets appear "in your ears" that others sweep right over.

One story in particular is the large cent I found. I hit a certain area at an old house site with two other detectors and never pulled a thing out. I bought my GT and hit the same area. After crossing the driveway I received a "one way" high pitched audio, 180 meter reading signal. I turned 90 degrees to check the target from a different angle and the machine just nulled. From reading the articles here on findmall, I dug the signal... You can read the story here http://www.minelab.com/usa/consumer/success-stories/what-a-sight-to-behold-1

To me, Minelab made a wonderful machine when they built the Sovereign GT.

Thanks for reading. - Jim

I have not used a whole lot but it would be the minelab x-terra 70 for me.

Well, since Ma hasn't had any of the newer machines, but the one I liked the most is my White's Spectrum XLT....found lots and lots of coins and misc. I didn't and don't like to dig deeper holes than I have and, therefore, the XLT is great for me or was!! May God Bless ya all to find tons of coins and relics but leaving your holes filled and the areas clean! Amen! Ma Betty

Well, I'd have to agree with Mike... while I haven't used but two others, I can't believe there's one better out there. I think I'm going to take mine apart (a winter project) and waterproof it. I'd love to use it on the beach with a 14" sunray or a butteryfly coil. However, I'm really liking the CZ-21 at the beach. Very light, pretty darn sensitive to small targets and gives some great depth in autotune.

Minelab X-terra's and Safari wins hands down! There isn't a better line of detectors on the planet than Minelab, as far as I'm concerned.

I have plans on how to waterproof the Exp!

Are the plans on-line? I'll probably get in touch with Max again. He had some step by step pics a while back.
