OK...have a technical issue.

I have a new Xterra 705. I found a great deal on a completely unused Xterra 70 so I bought it as a backup.
Found a used Coiltek 15" W.O.T. coil and just tried it on the 70....could NOT get to stop falsing till I turned the sensitivity down to 14. Tried it on the 705...no falsing with the sensitivity set at 30. Any ideas?

Did you doa complete factory reset? Noise cancel? Tell us more.

Thanks Longhair...here is some more info. I left the WOT coil on the 705 and did a factory reset, noise cancel, replaced the batteries & reseated the coil connection. Seemed to work ok although it doesn't seem to get the depth of the one I had stolen. Then installed the WOT on the 70 and did a factory reset, noise cancel, replaced the batteries & reseated the coil connection...alot quieter than the first time I tried it but still chirping some. The weird thing is that when I run the coil over a quarter...it throws a better signal in Menu mode than operating mode.

The better signal in Menu Mode is weird.

The rest sounds about right. Bigger coils often need to run less SENS to remain stable. The opposite is true with smaller coils. You can really crank up the SENS with a smaller coil, which is why they get as deep as they do.

Let's see what other Coiltek WOT owners have to say. They might advise you to contact Coiltek.

Was out with my WOT this week and found a great deal of nice finds. It have never been acting weird like my 10.5DD MF .Its very stable and can crank up the sens, normally I run it on 25-30 without any problem, but thats on my ground.
Also one really positive thing with the WOT is how easy it is cleaning, even out on field, when dirt stick on it.The butterfly design like NEL and SEF really do a great job picking up dirt, making it real heavy. Thanks Coiltek for such a good design and coil.

The difference in depth from the one you had previously could be a trait of the coil. Being assembled manually, no two coils will be exactly the same. However, since it seems to be working with the 705 (except for depth variance), based on what you've reported, I'd venture to guess the problem is with the X-70, not the WOT. How do the two detectors compare when using your other coils? (noise, depth, sensitivity, TID accuracy, stability etc) HH Randy

I used my 2 concentric coils(7.5 & 3) on both machines. Almost identical depths..but the winner was the 70 using a silver quarter, silver dime and a plain ol' nickle. Minimal falsing on both machines...although I did have to turn the 70's sensitivity down to 25 to quiet it down a bit.
The pic is of my truth stick.
Never thought about it when I got that 3 khz coil...but it does not like nickles.

Hmmmmm? That is a strange one. So the WOT is the only coil that acts up on the 70? But it works OK on the 705?
By the way, you're correct. The LF coil doesn't favor nickels. But it more than makes up for it on silver!!! HH Randy
