Florida heat is not the same as the heat we get up north here. When it start to get in the high 80's and mix in the friggin smog from Boston and NYC, life gets pretty unhealthy here. Heat and smog gets trapped between the hills and mountains and makes breathing pretty difficult. Florida heat is just plain hot and does not retain the smog.
 
I don't know where you lived in Upstate NY but in central CT the pollution gets pretty bad.......July and August most of the time our skys have a brown tint to them when it is hot........and of course our snow is never white.......plenty of black specks in it when it falls.
