all of my detecting has been done for the last 10 years with either minelabe excaliber or sovereign with iron mast.
wanting more depth and more ability to find things that the above two detectors could not find, i decide on goldqusst.............very good choice, but i have always tried to hunt 3 hours.........two before low tide and one hopefully at low tide.
if you take a look at the pic of todays finds, which are similar to the other finds i have made with the goldquest and if you add 2 minutes to each piece of iron that this baby finds a person will loose 45mins. to 1 hour of detecting time compared to time if i used the two VLF machines above........so today and from now on, i have to add extra hour to hunt to compensate for the iron i dig, as would anyone else in a trashy area like i hunt in.
15 bottle caps, minelabs would have found at least 7 of the older ones, but no iron or fish hooks..........
bottom line.............for me is to just hunt longer. goldquest will find.

I LIKE THE WAY U SHOWED ALL OF YOUR FINDS REGARDLESS IF IT JUNK OR TREASURE.. IT GIVES THE OTHER PEOPLE A IDEAS OF WHAT IT TAKES TO FIND THE GOOD STUFF.. NICE POST...AQUAMAX

Hello AquaMax,
I'll have to agree with you both the Sovereign and the Excaliber are great beach units weeding out the trash/iron and small gold jewelry, The pulse machine does have it's place to being a great beach detector.
Not all beaches will be as trashy as the one you recently searched, It's not uncommon to search a beach with little trash or iron when using a Pi. When I say trash, I'm including the smaller foil and pull tabs and iron will always be a factor at any beach "some more than others" Many times here in California the lighter foil and pull tabs will wash up on shore leaving the wet sand area clean with only good conductors and a few bit's of iron and bobby pins or paper clips.
Recently searched one of our beaches with a few friends, The wet sand area was clean with many deep coins and other good conductors as well. One of my friends was using his Minelab and he couldn't even get one good solid deep hit, He gave up and started to watch me use my HH Pi, From the second he started following me he kept count of the conductors I was digging. In that short 25 yard span my Pi recovered 16 deep targets, 15 coins and one bobby pin which I almost called since it gave off a double beep. My friend was impressed <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Yes, Sometimes the Minelabs work best under some conditions and the Pi pulse units will out perform them in other areas, Keep us posted with your next outing. Give the Pi time and you'll find what others walk over.

when I hunt on the dry sand i just collect lots of trash its the trade off ive used excal and sov excelent machine and like you i was missing lots of goodys so i started my quest for the pi but in dry sand i pick up junk with good targets here and there this weekend i got a gold ring from others who had walked right over it it was down deep not that deep but because it was a thin mans ring others went over it i know cause i know the shoe prints of most of the hunters so i can tell whos been to the beach unless they buy new shoes abyway i could tell somebody was there but that day i probably picked up 50 bottle caps and foil and hooks tent pegs bobbypins nails etc.. but scored some chains silver and a nice cross pen two rings one plated one real 14 k band now in the wet sand i have good conductive targets like paul explained unless the sand moves in and burys everthing (hate when that happens ) and its usually fishing weights hooks or a rusty piece of iron or a bottle cap that made it out to the surf other than that there good targets and with the salt water it seems to magnify the depth of a pi so it goes deeper with the sov and excal i missed stuff i dont miss now the stuff i find seems to be in a differnt catagory i started to find chains smaller anklet braclets things like that small rings i mean small they dont even fit on my fingers and are really thin stud earrings even staples and small bb like things n i have to admit this is such and exciting detector im always supprised on the stuff i find any way hh larry ca
