OK, Now What....?

I recently bought a used Sovereign XS without a manual. I downloaded a Sovereign XS2A pro manual and it seems to relate to this older model in many ways. I have the original 8" DD coil. Any recommendations for the first time out? This is my first detector. PS I bought it from metaldetector.com for a reasonable price. It came with SunRay rechargeable battery pack and a new Minelab charger. Thanks for any tips. I'm all ears.

swing it slowly and have fun !!!! learning will come as you use it more and more.......the settings I see in the picture are a great starting point, as you feel more comfortable click it out of auto sensitivity and try the 12 o'clock position.........good luck !!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I went out this evening until the mosquitoes about carried me off. I found that the dead center of this particular Coinsearch Coil was the reference point for digging. This seems too simple but I believe it to be true at this point. Has anyone had similar results with the Coinsearch 8"?

Dave,the XS Sovereign is a great detector.Metal detecting is fun but it takes time to learn buy a good book on the basics of metal detecting. If you don't have a meter dig the high tones for the first few times out to build your confidence..The meter will help you learn the different tones much easier.There's a guy on Ebay that sells straight shafts they are cheap and will change the XS into a well balanced machine.Hand held pin pointers are cheap and will help you to find coins or small items quicker with a lot less work. Search your yard first before you go to a park.Use common sense if you think a place is off limits to metal detecting it probably is, use a screw driver or knife type trowel to cut flaps.Always be careful when digging, refill your holes and always use a trash coin apron. Enjoy the hunt and the outdoors

these units are mint...i run a x2a pro with a 15
'wot coil at the beach and it gos down so deep i need a excavator to recover the coins i bought mine used as well from a guy on here i use the factory setting and as i am in the stages of getting use to it i think that thats the best way to start and i refer to my manual as needed for assistance .you came to the best forum/discussion site there is anyone on here will bend over backwards to help you good luck and happy hunting!!
