Since spring is just around the corner, and many of us are itching to get out and dig. I thought I would ask all of you to share with us, either your best or favorite coin ever found with your detector. This is not a contest of who got the best coin or most valuable coin. Just a chance to share your favorite/best coin. So I hope everyone shares even if your best is a wheat penny. Feel free to share what kind of site it was found on, and if you want to add a pic that is cool too. Have fun!

I think I may have posted this before but it is still one of my favorite coin finds.

1906 Half dollar, found at the beach after a storm.

1973 Half Dollar and 1974 Dollar, I found after a fair just laying on the ground.

(Sorry...No Pictures)
Metal Detecting is a wonderful hobby and, to be sure, one I have enjoyed over the years. I've found coins from nearly every foreign country one can imagine but my favorite finds have been:
1. A 1907 Indian head cent
2. A 1943 Lincoln steel cent and
3. A 1997 Kennedy half dollar

For the most part, most of my favorite coin finds have come from long forgotten or little used county parks. This coming season I'm hoping to hunt older properties.

Found in a glory hole with 17 coins (7 were silver) I got a 1916-S Walking Liberty Half in fine to x fine condition. Very low mintage and worth maybe 450 to 500. :clapping:

I found this about a mile from my house. It was under a very old tree across a busy street where an old farmhouse stands. The trees in this particular park surround an open area that used to be (I found out through some old maps) a pond. This area has been heavily hunted yet the coin was only about 3" down. I felt the smoothness of it as I dug it out and knew it was old. :)

This is how she looked before cleaning.

After cleaning, MUCH nicer :)

what denomination is that?

Mine would be a 1877 seated quarter I found. I do not know where I put it or I would take a picture of it.

Nice finds everyone! I guess my best find is a 1980 something quarter that 7cents planted in the garden while he was trying to teach me how to hunt. Haha!

few I really liked...awesome 1876cc seated dime... then my oldest silver 1854 seated quarter...1864 2cent piece was also pretty special to me...right now I`m waiting on a new detector...xterra 705 so the first silver I find with it should be pretty special to me as well...lol

For me it would be my 1650 - 1654 French Liard (it's in pretty rough shape, please see the one to the right for a comparison) that I found in an old apple orchard in Londonderry NH back in 2000. What made it special wasn't the fact that I was using my brand new Explorer XS (it DID help though), but it was the fact that I got to share the moment with Alissa.

It's not just the finds that make this hobby great, it's the people we can share these moments with that are the real treasure. Thanks Mike for the post and God Bless!

At an old Civil War fort I dug this seated dime with a hole in it. As the site had forever been a cattle range and never any development there it had to have been dropped by a CW soldier.

As it had a hole in it it must have been worn by a soldier either reflecting on his birth year or his beloved's. I wear it on my keychain today in remembrance.

The date is 1838 so he or she would be their early 20's or so. That's what I think :) Steve in so az

These two were found in the same park on different days the Indian was only about two inches down
The Seated Liberty was found about a 100 yrds away from the Indian, that was about six inches down.
The seated was so worn I didn't even know what I had until I got home and cleaned it up a bit. This park
is fun and is well picked that makes it a challenge but when you hit something it's that more rewarding.
I'm going to cheat and post one more favorite from the same park!

God Bless, George

That's what's so great about this hobby and finding stuff! It's not about money like those morons on the MD TV shows... It's about digging something out of the ground, knowing that you're the first person to touch it for many years, and wondering what the story behind it is... Pretty cool. Nice dig Steve!
