hi all, i'm a curious cat today, so i had to ask the ultimate of personal questions coincerning your repository of personal wealth that you take with you on every hunt. i know, i just had to ask. and i know it's kinda personal, but... just thought i'd ask. i have a nice weekend with a good possibility of jumping on a couple of hot spots i've been seriously eyeballing lately - one involving bulldozers - yummy!
what's in my pouch? dust from the last hunt. small bits of metal that broke off. cigarettes. cellphone. a stray memorial cent. and that's it! i like to travel light, and move quick. drink in the back pocket. i have one of those across the shoulder, multi pocket zippered pouches that are almost impossible to lose but slide down everytime. but i still like it. it holds a lot. so...what's in your pouch? hh,

Hmmmmm...In my pouch there is the ever present dust from previous hunts (dirt, grass, mud(I clean it out about every month)), maybe a few stray cents, a old towel for the dirt, and my pinpointer...While hunting, it also holds my 4" coil, extra digger, and my Gatorade...I wear my pouch on a 2" wide web belt and my Lesche in it's holster are on my right hip...Pouch on my left hip...entrenching tool in the back right, flashlight on back left. LED headlamp is also sometimes in my pouch...

I have my detector in one hand with my digger and my water in the other
towel in pocket and soon to be pinpointer in other pocket
I have no pouch sadly

And i think i need a new digger

Hmmm.... OK Grey Ghost, here goes:

A pocket of old jagged crap that I've picked up along the way in case anyone asks me what I'm finding (parks & schools). That way if they have an issue, I can show them that I'm actually performing a public service while I hunt, making the area safer for kids. After that:

True Temper digger ($10 at the local Jewel Osco - what a lifesaver)
Bounty Hunter digger
Two sizes of Craftsman flat blade screwdrivers (popping clad)
A 12" tip section of a fiberglass fishing rod (general purpose marker)
Several popsicle sticks cut with a pointed end,
A couple of golf tees (this and the two items above are for marking hit spots to go back & dig)
Pinpointer
Spare batteries
Film container with water in it for that silver coin I know I'm going to find
A couple of duplicate early wheat cents. I use these as giveaways for the occasional curious person who approaches & turns out to be especially nice - you know the kind of person I'm talking about.

Cell, Deep Woods Off, Sunblock, Water, are in other clothing pockets or a belt pack, and I carry a large foam kneeling pad (knee pads hurt my legs after a while).

I'm still kind of new at this, but this assortment seems to serve me well for now...

Fiskars garden knife * wouldn't hunt without it!
Fiskars digger (metal or plastic, depending on the hunting ground)
Pinpointer
Dirt and probably a couple of embedded pull tab rings
The occasional water bottle and slim jims

When hunting, I keep the junk in the pouch.. The clad, keepable relics & jewelry goes safely in my pants pocket.

That's a good idea keeping the wheats to give out for that special occasion!

Don't run a pouch, just baggier pants. Have a spare 9-volt in both rear pockets.(Learned to keep them in separate pockets away from metal If you know what i mean Got my Craftman digger in one hand and detector in other. Set my water bottle at one end of the field doubles as my marker. Finds are usually coins which go into pocket, safe trash goes into other. anything large or sharp gets put on the ground in line with water bottle at end of field. Last direction walked is to police up the line of trash which either gets deposited in trash can close or trash at home. I agree with Grey Ghost, lighter the better.

Heres a pic of my recently finished belt mounted rigs. Starts off left to right with a simple tape measure pouch customized to holster my old large bulky pin pointer, then added on a small strap near the back to hold my homemade coin probe, then attached the sheath of my intentionally dull buck knife for digging, then recently added a strap for my good plastic trowel for another digging option, also works well to conceal the buck knife to help alleviate any tension between me and those weary of the hobby and large knives. Just added, the second belt mounted pouch I just purchased to replace my cheapo kellyko bag that I have used and has made me nervous of losing finds since day one. This new pouch is zippered to help me rest easier and also has a velcro front loading pouch that holds four 9 volts perfectly. Both pouches can be picked up very cheaply from your local home improvement store. Then of course is the the digital cam pouch. Not pictured are the cell phone and my can of Skoal filled with cotton balls to help make sure any goodies make it home safely. TC and HH, JJ

Thanks for the picture. I just went to Walmart & Home Depot to get ideas for a belt / pouch to replace my stylish grocery bag that I carried.

I wear a leather 4 pocket tool pouch on a military web belt. The belt was made by the Cinncinnati Institute for the Blind and has a quick disconnect buckle. It carries my Ames ss garden digger, TinyTec Deluxe pinpointer and gloves. The 12" custom (home made!) brass coin probe slips right into the pencil holder. On the hammer loop I hang my knee pads when not in use. This rig doesn't weigh very much so it's comfortable to wear for a couple of hours at a time. Coins and rings go into the small top pocket, pinpointer in the next one and the digger and trash go into the largest nail pocket. The lowest pocket is where I put most tabs and nails because it's exposed enough for the curious to see what I am finding.

I agree on the fiskars, best ever and i have tried lots of digging tools, has a "jagged knife side" invaluable if you come up on roots, also cannot will not, does not bend or rust, and these items in my camel pack (a light weight backpack with a water bag inside), then:

several gloves leather when dry rubber when wet
probes
pinpointer on belt
"treasure pouch" small thingy probably meant for something else
a small "shingle hammer" very light weight


in addition, as I also fossil hunt various other "diggers"

Ok, here's what you all left out of your bag; a well protected "Ham and Cheese on Rye" along with a "lemon/lime drink". all other soda's taste like awefull when they get warm. Hey when you aren't finding nuttin', sitting under a nice shade tree with the sanwich, gives a new lease on detecting. I'll have to admit though, sometimes a "peanut butter and Jelly on White Bread" isn't bad either!
