So I will have to try and end it. I can't tell you much about this one other than it found at a site dating from the early to mid 1800s.

Here's something similar, Chris
Gilded sterling silver cufflinks with an enamelled shield depicting the Canadian provinces in orange and white enamel c1910-20. Looks to be 5/8" x 7/16". They may be military or regimental cufflinks.

More info Chris.
Ok, now I'll take that comment about your DDC fob back... you got a beaut of a Canadian find, eh?
Cuff link for the RMC, maybe?

Is late Victorian mark for Robert Hendery, Montreal silversmith.Firm sold to Henry Birks & sons after 1897.

...obviously by the crest, yours predates the one in the pic I posted. Maybe a lapel pin? Real nice find, Chris, keep digging!

I found a sort of similar piece which is about the same size,

It still has a few inches of the long hatpin attached to it. It is difficult to say if there was a solder joint in the center of the back of yours??
btw....I sent you an e-mail.

Hey Andy,
I believe that is a Sweetheart Pin from the Montreal 23 Infantry Battalion, WWI.
Link to other sweetheart pins below, plus 23rd Cap badge pic to show insignia. Nice dig!

Sure looks like the crest, but do you think sweetheart pins were sold as hatpins? That pin was probably 10 or 11 inches long originally.

Not at all unusual for the early hatpins, I don't know when they went out of fashion though.

...the arms of the city of Montreal as on Lower Canada tokens. I believe that is a Queen's crown. Nice find!
