I sold my Whites XL Pro and have taken the plunge. I've bought a minelab explorer XS. I had to see what all the hype is about first hand. Hopefully I can figure the damn thing out when it gets here. Sure seems a lot of people have a hard time getting the hang of things on this machine. With any luck I'll be posting lots of goodies in the spring.

Wess,
Welcome to the Minelab Family. Give your new machine
a few months and it will be singin' a sweet song for you I'm sure of it.
I pulled a beautiful 1903 barber dime and 2 Mercs out of a a spot that my nephew hammered with his XLT this past Saturday. HH Tony

But in all fairness that was you as a Whites owner.

everything you hear. I got my Explorer XS and I found it a breeze to learn and pinpointing is a piece of cake. I use to swing a XLT and found that harder to learn than my Explorer. Get a good program and stick with it. Don't keep switching programs. The hardest part is learning to slow down your swing. You WON'T be sorry that you bought the XS! When I had my XLT I dug about 2 dozen silver coins and 1 indian head penny in 3 YEARS! My first year with the Explorer I dug 101 silver coins and 104 Indians! How much more proof do you need? It's an awesome machine. Email me if you'd like to try a program. I use the one Mike from St. Louis posted and it works great!
Good luck!

Sort of took the words right out of my mouth....Excellent post and indeed an Explorer only as easy or hard as you want it to be...

How close in performance are these two units .....can anyone shed light on this honestly?

who that big goon is that is holding me up in the air!? *haha* If it's you, and your nose is really that big...I'd much rather be the sexy guy piXsing his pants

I have both. I used the Coinstrike for a year, then got an EXII. The Coinstrike served me well. I used the largest coil, max sensitivity. Had a great year. Found coins with iron, coins with trash, coins on their sides.
Had my EX2 since October. Definitely heavier. But the main differences for me... Cover more area with each sweep, and deeper targets will ID much more clearly.

I have owned both a sold the CoinStrike. I could not get it to be reliable in depth or ID. I was digging 'hot rocks' IDing in the high 20's range in ID. I tried various methods to try to fix that 'problem' and never could. I also had targets that would go from 30-35 to 51! That's a hot rock on the C$. There are some people that are getting excellent results with the C$ but I was not one of them. I am not bashing the C$ just letting you know of my experience. On the other side, I've owned an Explorer for about 4 years and I can say it's an awesome machine once you take the time to learn it properly. For some people they pick it up and immediately understand it and some people need more time.
