old 250 Won't start?????

Roper

New member
Hi,

My truck machine, the one I carry all of the time, is an old 250 and has gotten to where it refuses to turn on dependably with any of.the three coils. Hasn't been dropped or beaten up. It is kept in shock absorb foam in the truck. Batteries are hot and reasonably new, good connections. I took it apart and used contact cleaner and compressed air without success.

Am thinking of sending it in for a diagnostic and wonder if anyone else has had this problem and perhaps there is an easy fix?

Being basically cheap, I'd hate to pay a hundred bucks for shipping and repair on a two hundred dollar machine. Might be time for another machine, but I hate to go through the process of buying several until I find one I like then selling off the ones I don't like.

Your comments appreciated.

Thanks,
Roper

You only need to send the head to Garrett. This will save on shipping. Should be 10.00 or less Priority mail.

If you had it contained in foam it could have gotten to hot. Email Melinda at Melinda.Harper@garrett.com and tell her the problem and see what it might cost to fix it. Whoknows, they might do it for free.

Hi,

Sent an e-mail, no reply as yet.

I thought the foam would act as an insulator, but not the first time thinking got me into trouble.

Perhaps they have an upgraded unit in the works and I can use the same coils.

Thanks,

Roper

First, stop abusing your detector! Second Garrett has fantastic service and I bet the repair would be less than 40 bucks and quite possibly free. Contact them, tell them your situation, you'll have your 250 back in no time, good as new.

Ship it priority mail. Just send what Garrett asks for. Five or six pounds will be less than 15 bucks from anywhere in the country. Shipping from NY would be $11.80 in its original box with light packing peanuts.

Hi, I'll have the kid look at it with the big magnifier for possible cracks. My old eyes aren't what they once were.

Thanks, Roper

Hi,

the kid found a broken battery connector. Young eyes. Garrett wanted 40 plus parts plus shipping so paid the kid twenty and got out ahead. Works fine now. Thanks, Roper
