Old Decorative piece dug today, Lion maybe?

I just had to get out today for a bit. Hit a small park and I got a deep penny range signal and out popped this piece, very unusual. looks like a lion to me....any ideaS On this one? I cleaned it up a bit and thinks it looks a lil better.

That's really interesting. Looks like it may have had an iron pin on the back that has rusted away or broken off.

Looks like a drawer pull to me. there would have been an iron or brass ring clenched in the lion's teeth........NGE

no it is not near big enough for that. I can barely get a toothpick between the teeth, let alone a ring for a door knocker

Nice piece! You didn't say how large it was. It looks like a decorative accent piece for some furniture probably from 1920's or earlier, maybe Victorian?

I agree

But could be older than Victorian

Is it gilded bronze?

It is probably considered "Roccoco Decorative", worth looking up

As always a Great Find

I've seen something very similar mounted on an old trunk????
