Old Explorer v Quatrro

UK Brian

New member
I've been asked about the old Explorer S, which is a version I never tried, and the Quattro.

This guy has the choice of a mint Explorer S which has had rarely been used and he knows the owner and it is a good one or for a little more money from the other end of the country he can buy a Quattro which is far newer but has been given a rough life and shows it but is described as working well.

As both could be described as "cut down" versions of the Explorer which would be the better choice ?
He's retired on a limited budget and even though later Explorers do have many extra features the above machines are what he can afford

Many thanks if anyone can help.

and I would go for the Explorer hands down. If its in excellent shape and he knows the owner too, thats good. You can't take anything away from the Q it is a great machine and well made. But I searched areas again with the explorer after the Quattro and found a number of coins the Q missed. Both are deep machines and get deeper as you learn either one. But my choice considering the conditions etc. would be the Explorer. Just my opinion among many.

Just a few less bells and whistles. No backlight, manual channel search instead of automatic, a couple of other things that I can't remember but none of them makes it perform any less than the XS. Tell your fried to go with the Explorer. I've used the S and I've used a Quattro and the S is a much better machine for depth and ID.

I have the Explorere SE and the quatrro both. I think I do less digging with the explorer. It seems to me that the Quatrro gives off siginal as good but when I dig, Iron.
I had the old Explorer and upgraded to the SE the best move ever. Now I have ordered the Minelab Pro Coil. I know this is a expensive hobby I had been searching for over 37 years. Why hunt all day anywhere in the hot sun or in the cold without the best you can get.
