[attachment 118358 1855FrenchCoin007.jpg]Here's an old French coin I found. Not a very good picture, but the obverse says at the top Napoleon III Empereur, with the date 1855 at the bottom of the coin. The reverse at the top says Empire Francais. At the bottom of the reverse it says Dix Centimes.
Now the rest of the story.....
I was out in the family garden playing with my collection of Matchbox cars. As I was digging around, I came across this coin. I wasn't much into coin collecting at the time, but the coin caught my interest. I took it in the house and put it in a box. I had it checked by a local coin dealer, who told me some history and possible worth, but I decided to just keep the coin. I have had this coin many years. To the statement "I was playing with my collection of Matchbox cars". You see, I was only 10 years old at the time I found this old coin in my mom and dads garden spot. Even though I was young, this coin was the beginning of my passion for history, and coin collecting. I have kept it all these years(I am now 51) and don't ever plan to part with it. When I look at this coin, it takes me back to that time of my youth in my mom and dads garden. I can picture myself there and mom and dad being close by. Just one of those sentimental things for an old guy. I know this doesn't qualify for the contest, as I did not find it with a detector, and it was a long time ago, but I just wanted to share this special find with all you. Thanks for looking.
