Old Gold and Ice.......

Skully

New member
Started off dry-sanding at the drained lake, picked up a silver ring, junk toe ring, keys, sunglasses, etc.
Wind was unbearable so I decided to wait and go LOOTIN' at the old lake at night with the Excal 1000
It got down into the 30's last night but I'm geared up for the cold!! and the water temp is still in the low 60's - high 50's

and I like the marble. Getting a small collection of marbles myself and some are real kool.
I don't know anything about marbles but a google search on marbles and custom marbles can turn up some unique marbles.

A jeweler might be able to date the ring by the cut diamonds, old style or new style cut.

Skully, I think you should change your Forum name to Magnet. It seems you just need to walk by it and the stuff jumps right out of the ground and water and screams at ya "Open your pouch Skully we're coming in" Let me tell ya bud, you have got to be putting some serious time in and its definitely paying off. You keep going at this rate and your going to turn those Honey Holes into Sink Holes. :clapping:
Beautiful ring. Are most of your finds in the wet sand?
I am a water pirate....Leave the land for you looters...

I loot at night mostly..With the Excal 800 and 1000

This lake I'm hunting has been lowered to work on the dam

So I'm really hunting the water...

And I only hunt fresh water! my rigs haven't seen the salt

Here is a PM I received....

Without the author name.

Hi Skully,

The diamonds in your ring are called European cut stones. They date from the early 1800s to 1920. They have a small table and a culet on the pavillion ( extra facet on the rear tip ). They are deeper cut in relationship to

the diameter than a modern round brilliant which came on the scene around 1919. If you are using modern diameters to gauge ct. size with the old european cut diamond, you will come up short on actual ct. weight. The old stones

weight 15-20% more than the diameter would indicate. The bright cut and beaded mounting would indicate this ring to date around 1865 - 1900. Super nice piece you have there! I hope this info helps.

Lake finds.........even more impressive. Cool info about the ring. Look for Toto's lake/pond finds in France? Land detecting is fun but finding water gold is the most rewarding. HH
