Old homestead yields nice cache.:yikes:

You have a relative who owns an Explorer and 40 acres of land with reliable cache-ing story and he finds the stuff by accident? Oh, My! He does need help. Well, remind him to check over the piles of loose dirt he ripped up.

My cousin has been metal detecting for many years and it's not that he and others before him haven't tried to locate the old guys caches in the past. Who knows how deep he may have buried his stash? If it took an excavator to disturb this jar of coins that may have been out of any detectors depth range wouldn't you be just as happy to find any cache by accident? You have skill and you have luck. I would take luck any day and to have an excavator push over an old stump on forty acres that just happened to be the right one then all I can say is thank goodness for accidents.:bouncy: You can bet your britches my cousin has gone over any piles of dirt as well. HH.

You have to figure out the pattern..IE: every third tree ,every 5th tree, even every other tree is a big potential...or maybe say, just oak trees, some pattern for memory purpose.

You are right, Eddie. Luck is Good. I'd be pretty piqued to discover I'd missed a jar lid in the top foot or so when I had been looking hard for that exact thing. Any deeper, and they would be real easy to miss -- so I'd call my excavator a "second-level detector" and claim I found it on purpose! Whatever works. Great finds in any case. Now he has some vital clues to possible locations of others. coil ( or tractor!) size needed, etc. Hope he finds a bunch more, but maybe not so many that the IRS becomes a problem. HH.

I'm going to be a little more curious about some of those louder than normal signals, that you sometimes pull away from. With spring on the way up here, I'm itching to get out. And every time I see a post like this, it drives me nuts. Good luck in your adventure.

wow, I wish I fond 198 coins (mostly silver)!!!

Oh, where is that cache in the ground? The one with the long golden-taaaiill? Oh, where is that cache in the ground? The one in a barrel and not a pail? (Sung to the tune of "How much is that doggie in the window?") Here I am looking for caches and your cousin's already finding them! Life's just not fair! HA! I wish your cousin all the best in the world and may he soon find two or three more! Oh, if his arm ever gets tired, from all that searching, I'm always willing to help out while he rests! HA! Again!

Now to find that mason jar with the Gold Coins. :D
