My wife and I detected an old property Friday night that just looked great... scraped yard, waiting for new sod. We pulled about 75 clad coins, mostly zinkers and copper memorials coins all 1" or less from the small yard, they were just everywhere. Lisa got a silver rosey and together we dug 4 wheats form the 40's and 50's. The house is from 1900-1910 and to the owners knowledge had never been detected. We were a little puzzled by getting no older targets or deeper signals. It also was getting late so, we called it a day.
I did get a solid 42/44 and found this token! VERY HAPPY WITH THIS ONE!!!
This token is from Fort Douglas, Utah which dates back to the 1870's. F company of the 38th served there from 1922-1940. The fort is now decommissioned and a historical site. You can't get near it with a detector.
The owner is going to scrape down another 3" and have us back for another try. Maybe we can get some of the older stuff if it's still there. Our theory is that there was so much clad and iron around, it's masking anything deeper. When we go back, we plan to hunt in all metal dig everything, go low and slow and recheck the whole area.
