old or new button question???

Can anyone tell me, I have a old button we found it is hollow with a eagle on the front. The back of the button says new york button works. Is this something modern or possibly old that I should check out more??

Have you tried the Whatzit Forum, I know they post a lot of buttons on it and I see answers from knowledgeable people responding. New York Button Works sounds familiar and am sure it has been around quite some time. There again a picture would help and of the front and especially the shank if intact.

Ill check out that and when wife returns for journeys next week Ill try and get a pic posted. The shank I got but it is off the button. I dont know if it is real old or not but when in doubt hang onto things right.? Thanks again
