Old orange White's PI question

I have a chance to purchase an old White's Pi unit. It's orange and has Treasure mate or Treasure master-something along those lines. I believe it's one of the first models they had. Seems like I read they had another update that was orange after this unit.
Anyway, can some one please comment on the performance compared to white's current pi.
I have 0 experience with pi. Will I be able to use this thing successfully at the beach?
I wrote white's, all they would say was they no longer had parts. They would not comment on the performance.
What would this unit be worth?
thanks much!

If your going to purchase a PI detector, my suggestion to you would be to purchase a current unit. If those older units were good we would still be using them.
If your a diver, some of the not so current units will do, but not old ones. I

Sounds like you are talking about a white PI 1000.

I agree with Mr. Bill and Frank! My very first PI was an orange White's PI 1000 when it first came out which was the next step in White's PI evolution. Depth was not that great. Today's PI's are a world apart from those old units. As Mr. Bill said if you are going to get a PI used don't with anything more than 5-6 years old but prefferable something made in the past 2-3 years would be best!!! I had an opportunity to use an Aquastar 2 last Fall and I was amazed at just how deep it was capable of going on a gold ring. PI's have come a very long way!!! JMHO
