Old pocket watch back

It has a scratched in name on back but not totally readable. What methods are there for bringing lettering or scratches out more clearly ?

First attempt would be to use a semi dim flashlight and bend the angle of the light across the surface, you might be able to see more of the letters or parts of the letters. A good camera with macro can do wonders too.
