Star in center, lined field, M & C RR. Found in Tennessee. What line was the M & C?

That's it! But my shank is gone. Is it really that old? I assumed it was a turn o' the century deal. The site I found it in is an old house where the CSA camped a while. Of course, there is no hint of the house except broken china and stuff. Thanks!!
What is the scoop on the button? Rarity, etc.
