Getting ready to retire and would like a new detector .. I have a machine that is about eighteen years old and needs to retire .. Places I hunt have alot of pull tabs so I would like a detector that can tell the difference between tabs , silver and jewerly ..... Your comments welcome ... Thanks Mick

Can't go past a Sovereign GT or Safari.
Sovereign has lots of knobs and a steep learning curve but the results are superb.
Safari is more "switch on and go" but with similar results in the end.
If you like to twiddle the controls go Sovereign, otherwise Safari is your best bet.

I'm pretty much strictly a coin shooter and for my area and purpose the Safari works just great. Here there is both old iron (deep) and modern day trash (pull tabs, foil and the like) combined and the Safari sorts through it all with very few surprises, once you've given yourself a few months to master it. Well rusted iron causes some owners headaches, but pull tabs and the like are especially easy to either discriminate out or else ignore. Unfortunately much of your gold jewelry is found in the same range as modern day trash, so your going to have to be willing to dig your trash to also find gold jewelry. Any silver jewelry is easy to find and will read just like clad and silver coins. The secret to using the Safari is being able to hear and then isolate your high tones in among all the trash, once you can do that combined with a quick check of it's TID #, picking out the good targets becomes a snap!

Thanks for the feedback . I had my search narrowed down to two machines ... Going with the Safari , Thanks again .....Mick
