Old school coughs up another silver...

Ray in WA

New member
Got out for about an hour and half today at the school I hit yesterday, and started gridding the grassy playground area since I now know old coinage is definitely there. I didn't get my longed for seated dime, but this 1943 Merc will do! It was only three inches deep this time and I heard the "flutey silver tone" again.

This coin has got to be one of the ugliest Mercs I've ever dug. I have no idea what the reddish-brown crud could be that is stuck to it. I didn't see any iron in the plug, either. The obverse cleaned up well but not the reverse. I will probably have to put this one through electrolysis.

HH,

Ray
